It could be, but it is too hard to tell. You are just going to have to wait unless you can see blue tinges in it.

I managed to save these guys from some landscapers mowing and tearing the shit out of a patch. I also got a little bit of mycelium to make some cardboard spawn.

My patch got raped.

Not the end of the world though, especially considering I don't plan on eating any this year. I picked quite a few mature ones before some moron ripped up the mycelium, and put huge footprints all over the pins.

I don't care if people pick 'em, it feels good to share. I just hate it when people ruin the patch for the future.

Aww, you mean someone tore up the mycelium and all that? The patches I found, I left the young mushrooms, spread a bit of mycelium but left most intact and totally tapped spores around the area.

Today marked my first cyanescen finds.

Thanks to people like Twiztidsage, and everybody here in PNW finds, I knew exactly what to look for.  Honestly, I had a picture in my head of what kind of habitat to look for, and when I saw it, I said "ok, so I feel like this is the PERFECT habitat, lets stop here and check", and bam, 20 seconds go by, and I look down and say to Malukie, "these look like...." and at the very same moment my gf says my name and thinks she found some....it was awesome cause my gf and I had a lil competition going to see who would find the first one...and we literally both had our first find at exactly the same moment, about 40 feet apart!

Today we found 3 seperate patches, left lots of pins, and picked about 70 cyans in total.

I got a high just finding them!  I was super stoked, the three of us were grinnin ear to ear.  The funniest part was, when we left Malukie's place, and my gf says to me..."so, what the hell are we gonna do with 50 cyanescens...we cant eat them all..." haha.  And I was like "ya, what the hell are we gonna do with them all....guess we could have a mushroom party tonight ".

Great way to spend a Saturday   woooooohoooooo.

Happy hunting everybody.:mushroom2:

Finds of the day [Re: mista]
    #11315032 -

Some One I Know, happened to find a couple beautiful patches today, and took some pictures. It seems hunting near Seattle police buildings can be very plentiful. Also the other 5 spots S.I.K. found them were totally destroyed, including the flowers and vegetation. The spots also had at least 5 other pickers today and S.I.K. watched kids with scissors killing pins less than a half inch tall and ripping up the ground in the process. I live up north in Bellingham and the story is the same, all the known spots have been exploited and brutalized. Seattle seems far more fruitful than anything ive seen in the 5 years of living in the region.

So this is probably mildly off topic but i figure this is the best place to ask this question with all the hunters around: It seems like the Cyanescen hunting is generally a significantly "bigger thing" in the Puget Sound than Portland.

Hunting 3 seasons in Portland I have never knowingly encountered another hunter. In only 1 of my 4 spots have I ever found evidence of another picker.

I'd probably be a lot less paranoid if I bumped into other hunters. As it is, I feel like I'm doing something so sketchy that nobody else dares. My hand shakes with every stipe I cut, invariably in quite public view. I cut all that I can in an area before collecting any, leaving the fruits on the ground until I am ready to leave, then quickly scoop them up and go. I figure this minimizes the time that I am actually possessing the fruits while not paying full attention to the horizon or to whoever could be observing me.

As it is, I collect barely enough for personal and friends/family use each year. I'd love to pull in a Puget Sound-style haul sometime, lay in a 5-year supply well preserved, so I can afford to skip a few rainy nights on my knees hoping I don't look like a burglar or psychopath. Heck, I might even help out a new hunter with a few tips if I wasn't so concerned about getting enough for myself...

I've been trying the whole time to cultivate new patches in locations where I could pick in peace, but no luck so far.

Sorry, no habitat shots this time.  Azures from the coast, it's just getting started out there.

beautiful azures. i wish i could find some up here in tacoma. anyone ever tried any outdoor experiments with them in the seattle area? i'm gonna have to get some spores

you sure can tell they're closely related to cyanescens, especially with that middle one in the second picture

Thanks man.

I got some stem butts today so I'm gonna try the cardboard tek with them, we'll see if it works or not.

I'll be heading back out there in a couple weeks and I might be able to help you out with a print then.

Man, I haven't been hunting since 2005. The two places I knew of were down around Seattle. Checked them out a few days ago and found nothing there. It sucks having lived in Snoho county for so long and not knowing any places.

Hopefully I'll be able to stumble across something on one of my days off soon though. I thought I was too early, but looking through all of this, I know I'm not.
