Jesus Might Be Dead
    #6613255 -

Evidence that Jesus may have been buried in a family tomb after his death has been uncovered. Archaeologists have uncovered evidence that Jesus may be buried with his parents Mary and Joseph in their family tomb. This has been the subject of a soon to be released documentary on the subject. here is a link to an article:
http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/02/26/raising-the-titanic-sinking-christianity/
It is interesting to ponder the possible significance of this, and should make for good discussion. So, can we finally have a funeral for this guy and maybe pay our last respects?

Inevitably, religious folk worldwide will discredit this as a work of the Devil or a false teaching. This will either cause a great ripple effect in both religious and academic circles-- forcing immediate re-evaluation of beliefs-- or it will be tossed out completely.

I concede that this is an interesting subject. But due to its volatile content, it's likely to be marginalized as mere speculation.

Tom Robbins wrote a fictional book about the implications if jesus' body was found.

It is basically the foundation of modern christianity. If Jesus didnt physically ascend to heaven, then there was no resurrection... no more easter. Paas and the fake grass industry will go bankrupt.

Being the work of the Devil certainly seems a logical explanation. Isn't this the scientific explanation for evolution...the work of the Devil?

Its just too bad that for all the serious science that might change the way we think about things there is always some BS story of them finding Noah's arc again or something.

If they actually get the remains I can't wait for the debate on whether scientists should be allowed to do DNA and/or carbon testing. Sigh..

DNA testing was done to confirm that the people in the tomb were related in the way the inscriptions implied.

According to the bible thumpers carbon dating is useless.

The world is only 6000 years old ya know.  If something tested comes back as 500,000 years old then it's obviously incorrect!

Yes, which is why many Christians will revoke this new (possible) finding.

Yup. As Richard Dawkins said,"Saying that the earth is only 6,000 years old is like saying that the distance from San Fransisco to New York is 500 miles."

Does this mean we can clone him now

i can not see how they can have enough evidence to prove that the body is actually jesus. So what, maybe the tomb says: Mary Joseph and Jesus. They were three of the most popular names in nazareth. This will be a total failure, just like "the tomb of jesus' brother", "the gospel according to Judas", blah blah blah bollocks !

anyway if u think about it... what would that guy think, if he could see us now with all our churches and shit .. he would really feel like a God! and thats what makes him immortal, even if they find his rotten bones

Yea, it seems fishy to me too. There has always been so much mystery surrounding Jesus and even his precise historicity and then BAM, they claim to find his remains all of a sudden?

You can't have it both ways... If finding and identifying his bones seems fishy, then him coming back to life and asending into the sky must seem fishy as well, no?

So, if you can handle the complete NONSENSE and BULLSHIT spewed forth by the Vatican, you better be able to handle a little speculative science "for Christ's sake".

Actually this is surprising to me, I previously held the Freke & Gandy belief that Jesus was a fictional construction.

Read the article. This tomb was found in 1980 and research on this has been ongoing for the last 27 years.

I also think it will turn out like the ossuary box ostensibly belonging to James, the brother of Jesus. And what about the tomb? It looks like the fossilized remains of the gingerbread cottage belonging to the witch who was gonna cannabalize Hansel and Gretel!

Do you have a hard time seeing Jesus as mortal like every other messiah and holy man that ever lived? I think proof of Jesus' mortality could be what Christianity needs to transcend Jesus...to look at what he said and quit putting stock and attention in fairy tales like walking on water and ascending to heaven bodily. It seems that the most important points about Jesus to modern Christians are in the superhero stories about him instead of his teachings.
