That's what usually goes through my mind on a bad day. On a good day (not too often) I am able to convince myself that neither of the two would be so bad (especially living forever). Think about it-- don't you think that if we do go some place after we die, it has to be better than this world? Unless we're reincarnated back to earth, which would be hell.

I would SO love to reincarnate back to earth. I just posted this when i was talking to a friend about what happens, and eternity...he said eternity is a long time, i hope i dont live forever, and i also hop e ijust dont die...but either one or hte other will happen...maybe. However i think when all is said and done, either we die and dont know i because we stop existing wich we wouldnt suck too bad cause we wouldnt know it, or if we go on forever...like reincarnate we probably wont directly know it. But hten again we live in a 3d world with life and death. Maybe there is an alternative to life and death out there that we miss, possibilities are endless.

Interesting topic!
I was raised catholic, went to catholic school for 12 years, and actually went to "Roman Catholic High School". I have been spoon fed a belief system my entire life without ever being given the choice to decide where i stand, on my own.
With the help of psychedelics and a few unexplainable events in my life, i have been able to tear down the walls which have been forced upon me and now I am in the process of building my own belief system based on many different philosophies and religions.
Life is all we have in this world. Essentially life is a series of tests in which we advance from one life to the next(sometimes we dont advance and actually move farther from our goal, but neverthe less we learn something). The ultimate goal being a first hand connection with "All that is" or "God" or "The Creator" or whatever you wish to call the ultimate energy source from which we are all made.
Life often sucks, life is sometimes good, but life is life and we need to learn from it. I have no real point, I have been rambling, have fun

the odds of us being alive today is roughly about 1 in 53400000000 without taking into consideration the odds of our solarsystem actually becoming what it is today .. talk about having good (or bad, depending on your point of view) luck? if there was nothing after death we wouldnt exist now..

Actually, eternity isn't a long time. When you try to think about eternity as a human being, something which exists in relatively small time scales, eternity seems huge. To an insect that lives a day, flying and moving at thirty miles per hour constantly, human beings must appear to be mountains and their timescales of perception distorted in the same manner as a mountains would to us. Try thinking as a mountain might, just get a sense of /its/ time and you will begin to understand the sense of eternity that exists after death. It's not a long /time/, if you exist within eternity time ceases to be relevant. It's only when we divide time up into cycles that repeat on our time scales (scales and fractions that exist meaningfully for us), lunar cycles, solar cycles, day-night cycles..that time /takes on meaning/. But these are just /benchmarks/ superimpose over time itself - mental abstractions and reductions of what actually exists - planar estimates.
In buddhist teaching it is mental processes such as fear at the moment of death which encumbers one from reaching out to touch and reside within oblivion or Nirvana. If we fear eternity, oblivion or void then we fear the absolute foundations of the Universe, we fear death itself. It is this fear that generates the cycle of Samsara - rebirth back and forth within the 'living world'.
But having no fear does not mean that you could not return to earth if you so desired it. Having no fear of oblivion and eternity is like opening a door, having access to a path which you had restricted yourself from. It is another option, another path. To the enlightened, all paths are open. To the fearful, there is just the automatic one back, and the despair at the moment of finding oneself /out of control/ at the point of death and sucked back into the cycle is enough to create what buddhists call the 'inauspicious birth' - which is more or less a rebirth due to Karma alone. Fear locks us into the destiny of our own cause and effect. And in that context, in the context of fear, eternity /is/ a very long time.

IT will be as if i never existed.....everything i have i ever done or experianced will cease to exist.
Existince from my perspective began at my birth and ends in my death.
YOur right about time being relative though i agree with that.

that would mean that everybody that is living now, wouldve been the same people that lived along time ago, just as a different person after each death. just goes to show why most people just live their little lives without realizing anything (the way it was meant to be for most) and not taking anything in for consideration.

You guys have posted alot of good things, every one of htem makes the idea less scary. I would love to be a mountain, i know that tehre is no long, without something short, etc, etc. however i was htinking, sitting still forever at 1 phase, or cycling hte sae thing in a loop over and over and over till no end, would be equal, and be pretty much forever, however when i think of forever, i think of 0 and hten infinity. I dont know. But then somoene said something about before they were born. If not existing sucks, i would came into this world a real asshole, i dont remember anything being too bad...well i dont remember at all, either way its all good i guess
