No it's true. The self we relate to our own being exists only within our mind.

Since I believe in bullshit, I found nothing offensive about the subject title.

--------------------
To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

"Can't admit it, eh? It's hard... trying to turn things around is an indicator... there's no argument here... just some talk."

hehe no..again you assume much.  you assume you know what's going on in my head.  second, you assume I'm trying to turn things around.  I saw the lines of "your beliefs are bullshit" as a corse way of saying what you could have said in a completely different fashion. it was the words you chose that I am looking at. it seemed to me that your intent was to try to prick at others egos.  it's why I asked though instead of making statements of what is and isn't.

"Great... now we can argue over the definition of a modifier... yawn.
It makes no difference in the end. If you trip on your ego, only one thing happens."

"yawn..."

who said anything about arguing?  let's talk about this more, as to what is your definition of an ego?  I see it as like a filter of how one takes in reality.  it's a part of the "self" that tries to judge external reality as either "good" or "bad" my saying having a healthy ego is one that doesn't dwell in negativity, because in the back of my mind, i know there really isn't a good or a bad.  reality just is, and can be experienced in any way.

ok, and if you do trip, well, thats a key indicator that you can improve yourself.  negative emotions can be very useful.

however, I don't feel that having no ego is the way to go.  without an ego, we wouldn't function properly.

let's here your definition...unless you don't want to discuss.

"NO, it depends on nothing. There is no inherent meaning in the words.
The ego is always looking for intent. Hence the concept of GOD, supernatural, aliens, etc"

no meaning in words...so what's a dictionary for? but even mroe so I actually agree with you. this is what I mean by intent. words are just words.  I can say "fuck you buddy"  in one way (lets say jokingly), using a certain type of tone, and a person will most likely take it as a joke.  why?? cause my intent was to joke around, and I if I displayed it well enough, my friend will see that.

on the other hand...if I say "fuck you buddy" in a different tone (say as an insult)  to someone else, they are going to (at the very least) pick up on the vibes I'm trying to send them.

so no, the words themselves no inherent meaning, but mix a little intent in there, and there is.

"Disagree all you want. You are the process, the grey-tissued processor, and the fleshy body encasing it all... CHONPS..."

saying the mind IS you, is very general don't you think? lets get more specific.  I specifically said our  essence is conscuous awareness. essence means that part of us that doesn't change.

you mind, includes your ego, your personality, and that changes as you experience more and more in life.

" I called that shit when the damn thing hit Cuba. Basic probability and familiarity with newtonian physics (inertia and whatnot). "

--------------------
Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

sturgeon's law [Re: Sclorch]
    #3018518 -

once upon a time:
back in the 50s, some "fan" (if that's the word) came up to ted sturgeon & said: "y'know, 85% of this science fiction stuff is bullshit."
the author looked at him & replied: "well, 85% of EVERYTHING is bullshit!"

henceforth this aphorism was known as "sturgeon's law"

(pretty much a true story, folks, hehheh...)

I think, everybody believes in something, because it's a natural brain-process, what has something to do with seeing into future, preassumption or mindsets for reactions on future events.

So if believes are bullshit, it allways will show afterwards

I came into this post un-offended in a sense that i did not want to cause phiscal harm to you, but if you screamed that in my face in a manner that wasn't polite then we'd have a problem. But since this is a forum i came in cool and ready to make you believe that what you are saying is illogical. You could say that i came in offended at the lack of logic just screaming out of your sentance, i was not offended personally or in other words you did not hurt my ego by saying " you beliefs are bullshit".

"I dont have any beliefs...like all people im not really sure...i dont really know.....actually i do know one thing, christiany, judaism and islam are all complete horse shit"

Just in saying im not really sure, it implies that you believe in something, this cancels out the first sentance of i dont have any beliefs, which is IMPOSSIBLE, no matter how hard you try?

hahahaha Good post
