Well, firstly, let's put Trump aside for a moment. Our justice system puts innocent people in prison all of the time. You don't seriously believe they only go after guilty people, or only convict guilty people, do you?

Now add to that the fact that he is the likely winner of the next presidential election, and people absolutely despise him.

A lot of them are black. Black people don't like seeing the justice system used as a political tool, and that is how this looks to many people.

However any of you feel, the fact of the matter is, Trump is not the first president to commit crimes, and his crimes aren't anywhere close to the worst crimes committed by a president (Torture programs, indescriminately droning/machine gunning people in afghanistan, etc.) If we are going to go after him, we should go after all of them. 

It is a good thing to see a former president actually have his day in court... still, nothing will likely come of it, and it will only bolster his campaign.


I fear those going after him really will stop at nothing now and will probably kill or jail him before allowing him to be president again.
I think they have reached a point now where they just do not give two fucks about public opinion, and at this point it's hard to know what's more terrifying.

What they'll do if he loses, or what they'll do if he wins!

I respect his bravery though!

I wonder what black people think about a white man convicted of 34 felonies that can still run for president when they can’t even find a get a job or vote if they have a felony on their record.

Trump has four criminal cases going on.

New York: hush money
DC: January 6th
Georgia: state election fraud and forgery of official documents
Florida: classified documents

BTW, he wasn’t convicted of paying hush money. That’s not illegal. The crime was laundering his payments through his lawyer making it look like they were legitimate business expenses.


For a supposed billionaire, making this look like a business expense seems so absurd, but I suppose that masks it a bit from looking like straight up paying out a hooker to keep her trap shut.

Can't prosecute warcrimes because of executive privilege, but can prosecute felonies by individuals.

I wasn't saying he is innocent. I was just saying that a person doesn't have to do anything shady to have the justice system turn on them. That is true.

I think it is generally a two tiered justice system for those with lots of money and those without, and that this verdict might be able to set a precedent to help even the playing field a little.

But yeah there's plenty of cases of white collar crime around.

This will do no such thing. If anything, Trump's sentence will only serve to bolster the notion that we have a 2-tiered justice system.

It's funny how we seem to come to the opposite conclusion, but hey, neither of us think he's innocent right, so that's something.

Although, him finally being convicted does bolster the notion that we've had a two tiered justice system for some time, because you believe me nelly that if any regular person did the white collar crimes trump has done, they'd be held responsible in the lick of a switch.

It's a milquetoast offense....a supposed rich dude paying of a porn star and the accounting thereof.... but to say there was also zero political impetus behind the prosecution wouldn't be  the reality. Trump feeds off of that shit, so does his base. He could now be set up for the "fuck you/ fuck it" vote....more than prior prosecution.

The state prosecutors timed it well and could have gone earlier, but they could also argue they needed the time to make an airtight case.

Sentencing 5 days before the RNC convention.. eek.
