. I also forgot to add that I swirled the pins in a pint jar with a cap of bleach (even dropped the smaller one on the FLOOR of the SAB fucketh me and picked it up again dipped it and off we went)

Not sure what to make of these. Transferred off a wild cube pin from germ plate. All 3 plates show these linear growths.

I streaked some agar plates with spores from a print 3 days ago in a SAB, then bagged the plates 2 at a time in new ziploc bags inside the SAB.

The plates are not wrapped, and are stored at 26C upside down to stop condensation on the agar.

So far, 5 of the 6 plates are showing the faintest signs of growth in the vicinity of the spores but too early to tell (to my laymans eye) whether it is myc or mould. It reaches out like myc so I don't think its bacteria anyway.

Question to you fine folks:

With unwrapped but bagged plates, how frequently are you comfortable handling them? I'm confident the bags are sealed, but mindful that I will eventually need to remove the plates from the bags to do xfers. So far, I have not handled the bags with gloves or used ISO. Should I?

Why dont you wrap them, clingwrap is cheap and works great.

I have before, - well using gardeners grafting tape rather than clingwrap, but honestly found I was quite clumsy inside the SAB doing that. Knowing that the ziplocs are sterile out the packet is quite reassuring, though I do acknowledge some obvious downsides. I guess this is an experiment, will wrap any xfers if the germ plates make it that far

Is parafilm like Marmite? I actually hate it but know that many love it

Cling wrap is best IMO. I was all like but parafilm stretches, but ya know it brwaks too.

Need to get me a pipe cutter.

Team cling wrap for the win. I've been using a bread knife to cut mine. I started out using a box cutter but I ended up with a lot of snaggy edges.

Thanks guess I'm not used to this manure/grain water. More sectoring then I'm used to. LC time

Going to leave these in a cold basement trying to clone for colder resistant fruits. If that works.

Does the knife work better?

You definitely have to be careful with a box cutter. I’m pretty good at it now but I’ve had a few rolls that were super irritating cuz there’s a jagged piece that would snag and randomly cut the cling off mid wrap.

I really like the bread knife. The serrations make it more of a saw. You still have to be careful but I can cut a roll in about 5 seconds.

Almost every kitchen benefits with a cleaver around. Bulletproof
Very useful when navigating through meats with bones and of course slicing through cling wrap rolls :crazy2:

I am using a ratchet lopper. Just put a piece of corrugated cardboard under the cling roll so it doesn't get mangled by the notched side.
It helps as well if the blade is clean.

I 100% support cling wrap. So cheap and easy.

Never had a problem using even the cheap dollar store version.

I prefer cling because it's ubiquitous, but I think that people use parafilm incorrectly, I followed RR' example when I first started and that method is incorrect.
