LOOK! Big AGAR problem. Ever seen this? Not I. need advice BAD!
    #4861769 -

I am stumped..... look at this picture.

I poured the agar, let it cool , inoculated, sealed with black tape... incubated.... How do I prevent this horrible condensation? Anyone have experience with this?

you won't get so much condensation...
if you pour the agar after it cools down a little bit..
rather than pouring it when its super hot.

2 things:

1: www.fungifun.org/agar
2: Don't incubate the agar plates in an incubator.

I'd also seal with clingwrap, breatable, as opposed to tape. Pour when cooler (condensation has to do with temp differences) and stack plates as you cook them, and try a cup of warm water on top of each stack of petris as they cool too, this keeps the lids warm, so the warm moist air from the unsolid agar doesnt have a chance to form on the cooler lid of the petri dish. Once solid, you can unstack them and you'll have little condensation.

I'm gathering info about agar before I being agar culturing myself, and I see you guys say to not incubate petris in an incubator.

From the answers given, the incubator doesn't appear to be the primary reason for his condensation...

Ya gotta have proper times for colonization...so why not use an incubator? What alternative is better?

you either have to wait for the agar to cool down or you should apply a stream of air to evaporate the moisture (but you don´t wonna do that, baecause you wonna keep the agar sterile as possible..

Incubators totally raise the condensation content. I was dealing with that for the past two weeks. I found if I don’t parafilm for two days after the pour all my condensation goes away inside the incubator (90 degrees F).

What I do for my agar to cool down is, while it’s still hot, pour my hottest tap water from the sink into the pot (it’s about 125) and periodically check the temp. As the agar cools, the water around it absorbs the heat. Once the water starts dropping below 125 I know it’s just about time to pour.
