It isn't an escape. You're still a part of society. You still see people and have neighbors.

And it is an option for anyone with the discipline to save a down payment.

Doesn't even have to be a big one. 5 to 10 acres could be had for a down payment of a thousand bucks. Most Americans just got more than that on a check.

1 to 5 acres, even less.

There's no excuse to not do it.

We just had riots all over America over the shit living conditions of the cities. How is my statement ignorant? I have lived in downtown Albuquerque, NM for the past 6 months now and as a grown ass man, do not feel safe there. That is literally first hand experience in one of the poorest cities with some of the highest crime in the US.

Not a single riot happened in any of the thousands of sleepy farm towns. What's the difference?

Everything I previously stated. Shit schools, worse university professors, high crime, concrete instead of nature, shit fast food, bad smells, smog, traffic, constant state of construction and demolition, liberals. Literally dragging the whole country down.

People are waking up to this.

There aren’t many jobs in rural  places , my job doesn’t exist that’s why I don’t move despite the fact I’d like to  and  I could buy allot of land if I wanted .  You also have to deal with harsh winters and poor    road conditions allot .

i'm glad so many people live in cities. i encourage them to keep living in cities. Keep the rural land cheap and vacant so i can buy more of it.

My parents live in a really rural place in the mountains and that’s the general feeling of pretty much everyone else living there .
What’s funny though is allot of those people lived in cities at one point and made all of their money there and that’s how they managed to move  . They are also the reason the few small businesses in this place survive .

There isn't a need for many jobs in rural places. Most of the heavy lifting is done between family members, friends, and neighbors.

Sometimes as favors, sometimes you get paid, sometimes you get jars of canned food or jerky.

When you have an abundance of food, space, and time- life begins. And it is surprisingly inexpensive. You don't need anywhere near 100k a year to live very nicely.

Cities are giant markets and every street is lined with people who only want your money.

There's no sense of community or trust in that. Just the runaway capitalism everyone complains about yet will do nothing to change.

We can literally defund the big nasty corps by not feeding our dollar votes into city life. It's disposable entirely. Nothing is made to last longer than it takes to develop the next iteration of the trendy thing. It's a fortress, the center of which is the most dangerous. The further you go from the center, the safer it gets.

Wait... are we sure it isn't actually a prison? Prisons are dangerous on the inside and safer as you move away...

In the country you can find all kinds of work. It requires trust though, not an application or a CV and fancy suit. It requires getting to know people and cooperating with people.

I'd rather learn how to maintain my own road and how to be comfortable in the deep of winter. People have been making roads and staying warm inside for thousands of years. Problems long ago solved. The city mind is being deprived of the learning experiences provided by being self-reliant...

....which FOREVER makes the city dweller dependent entirely on the city for survival.

If you are dependent entirely on cities for survival, you're forever a pawn which is how we have so many misled Americans today.

I will, Metoo. And thanks for reading! These are all old old ideas that we've largely forgotten- to our demise.

Half of America is convinced the system is broken but they don't realize they're trapped in a bubble.

The more word is spread that the American Dream is still attainable and rooted in freedom, the more power will be stripped from the people who gain their power through dependence attained by the people's ignorance of what individuals are capable of when fully aware, awake, alert, independent, and cooperating.

Yes. Once land, basic infrastructure, and means to eat are established, a family or even individual requires little money to perpetuate. If you have expensive taste, your land could provide as much or little wealth as you're willing to work toward.

The 'grow up, go to college, get a job, career, save for retirement, retire and then begin life' myth is for the birds.

Life begins with time and space and family all made possible through maximum freedom.

If you have land and water, planting a grove of trees intended to harvest for the lumber could bring in a quarter million in 20 to 30 years- easy. That's only one of millions of ways people can earn without a 'job'. Your job becomes tending and protecting the land and you're paid in ways that will exist and have value even if the dollar implodes and the banks go under or any other event that typically causes lots of people to lose their jobs and suffer through the boom and bust cycles-

-WHICH WE'RE LEARNING ARE NOT SO COINCIDENTAL AFTER ALL.

That's real power.

Money really does grow for farmers. I know a few people with land that make ridiculous money with maple syrup and it started as a hobby.

Totally!

Bees, trees, fruits, nuts, herbs, flowers, fungus, livestock and their derivatives, gardens, fish, crafts, furniture, art, pets, leather goods, fabrics, the list goes on.

What doesn't originate from the surface of the land comes from mining under the land.

The best part is that farmers and ranchers only set the stage and nature does all the hard work, freeing them up for family and other pursuits of interest.

American Dreamy...

Nothing says freedom like never leaving the town where you were born to work the family farm even if you want to do something else with your life

Totally easy. All you need is a lot of money to buy the land and something else to do for 30 years.

Cheap land is cheap for a reason.

What ? Farming is really hard time consuming work , nature tries to kill all of your shit . You have obviously never farmed anything .

Since we’re raising livestock, one of us has to be there at all times to care for the animals. We moved to the farm 12 years ago, and we haven’t been on vacation together since then!

Farming is a breeze if you like 60 hour workweeks and hard physical labor -- and, obviously, no free time.

Nothing says freedom like debt and dependence.

Who says you can't leave? Farm families are big and some kids fly the coop and some carry on with it. This makes for strong well-rounded families.

And who trusts a cosmopolitan article for the inside scoop on farming??

I've been farming for 8 or 9 years now. It is work. The work is back breaking at first but your body adapts and you get stronger to meet the demands of the job.

You get a full body workout while producing something which contributes to your survival instead of paying to belong to a gym full of mirrors and IG influencers.

It's not a fantasy, it's a highly subverted and powerful way of life.

It is barely work when you appreciate the freedom it allows you.

And you work hard and smart to set up your farm or ranch so that it requires minimum time and effort to maintain.

Again, nature does the heavy lifting.

Farmers have one of the biggest debt loads out there. How do you buy land without credit if you’re not already well off? You’re selling a fictional lifestyle.

You do get all those sweet subsidies. You don’t even have to grow anything anymore, you get a check because the international markets have been cut off by tariffs
