Blue foots are what my friends call ovoids. Among those who are not in the know, I think they're often referred to as each other.

We'll with the cooler temps this week and the steady soaking rain we had today I'm going to give it 1 more try Friday morning before work.  The only thing is that I have yet to find my 1st this season & that's not because of lack in trying.

what a great thread! ive very much enjoyed browsing all 70 pages so far!! a few of yinz have helped me have a super successful first year of hunting for these wonderful boomers :smile: we love voidwalking here in western PA!! i have made a bunch of what ive found into .25gram capsules, and they seem to be a big hit!! anyway, im headed up to erie this weekend, and i cant wait to hunt in a new area(any thing to gravitate towards in particular whilst near presque?). thanks all for the great info and entertaining read on here, and wish me luck on what will probly be my last expedition of the spring. im assuming there is a gap between early june and late september when one is not likely to find ovoids here in western pa... from what ive gleaned the times to really be looking are mid april to early june, and then again in late sept thru the end of november? i think ive become obsessed with the hunt and i dont know if i will ever be NOT looking, or that i will ever see stream beds/mulch in the same way ever again..! :cheers:

Damn! girl....didn't know you got blanked this year. Not sure what's up this year....I think the dramatic increase in celandine in the early season as well as the harsh flooding and moving of not only debris piles but the base under them has contributed significantly to their Mid Atlantic decline.I checked back and all the areas that I found bunches of them in 2013 are now either washed away or completely covered with celandine in the early season.When the celandine dies out, all that is left is a slimy, moldy sludge.
If it weren't for my seeded patches, I would have only found a few this year except for my Susquehanna spot....that variety seems to do well whatever comes at it.
I think I'll follow textured sounds leads and propagate some of my old spots with myc from that strain.
Really sucks that you got skunked.:sad: I hope maybe this next hunt will bring you a bounty.:mushroom2::dancingshroom:

Spore print is kinda black they don’t really bruise tho I just noticed them because they had a blue hue

TOTALLY agree Thayendanegea  my original spot which had done nothing but triple in size each year - completely wiped out.  I've hunted up/down river from it with NO luck as of yet.

I have 3 rivers that join 5 miles from me that make up the S fork.  My luck had always been with the S fork of the 3 (N. Middle & S.) BUT unfortunately that 1 had the worse of the flooding damage.  It's even changed it's run from depths to it's corse. 

Though a bit harder to hunt I'm going for the S. Fork (the 3 joined) today.  At this point at season end I have no choice.  I've already scopped Google Earth but not sure how up to date it is.  There's a few possible spots but not many.

I saved my paper bags from last year which is basically what's left after pulling the good out & I've kept them in the fridge.  Do you think I could spread them in some prime looking locations?

I wouldn't know, they say oviods aren't easy to get started from spores. I'd cut the bags into confetti and mixing with saw dust or wood shavings. All you need is a simple hand planer or even just a drill to get some shavings. Boil for 30 mins and mist as needed. This works every time, but I've never started with just spores.

Well hitting the S fork (3 rivers combine) paid off.  I found my 1st & ONLY of the season!!!!  BUT DAMNIT, I found 1, so I'm happy!

The bed with numbers in it has been going strong since early May.  The singles are fat and have only flushed once a week ago.  I’m hoping for some solid flushes with the rain coming. Haven’t hit any 80 degree days yet.

Well I’m hanging it up for the season.  It’s shitty out there.  The veg is huge like a jungle.  There’s still some to be found though.  Here’s a few pics of some meaty ones from today.

I know they're still out in other areas BUT as I'd explained before, we've had extensive flooding last year & that totally wiped out my spot.  Though I've been looking in other areas throughout the season it wasn't till last Friday that I found 1.
