If the water floods over that straight line field edge that would be the first place I’d look.

nah i found out after investigating....that side of the creek is 20 ft in the air. I scoped the moustache and the habitat looked soooooo good. Sandy soil, box elders everywhere, lots of ground cover....but nothing. I think I'm gonna go with koods suggestion and go back to my original spot and look harder. The vegetation is nearly impenatrable there, but box elders and debris piles abound. Maybe I'll wade across and check the other side in that area.

Debris piles aren't necessarily where you wanna look all the time. Those tend to be very late season. As was said, just keep going until you're sure there's nothing. Even if you're between flushes or something you can usually find at least a few almost rotten or dried-up ones to let you know you're on the right path.

Same, my one mulch find yielded 150 oviods then another 35 10 days later, all had short stems and very thin stems once dried. More then my other 3 natural habitat finds combined.
