Very nice finds Doc. Haven't had any consistent rain for almost a month down here so I'm not even finding common mushrooms. Even my Gym patches are all dried up :frown:

Thank you,  I need more time,  I don't have enough spare time to document like I want too. Hopefully, This year will allow me to do some experiments with cubensis mycelium, such as: Temperature tolerance,  Hydration/dehydration, nutrition preferences (cellulose, NPK, etc.)

I would like to see how long the mycelium can stay totally submerged and dehydrated,  as well as seeing how long it can be frozen before it dies. So many things that I want to investigate with so little time.

Imo @Type...Ive had some gnarly looking home cultivated cubes but to this day Ill put a cap I found during the colder season over any cubes ive ever had so Id say field cubes 👍

Still nothing popping in Augusta Ga area the humidity is still very low but we have had lots of rain with pools of standing water for extended periods of time so fingers are crossed for a good season with minimal winds

We had our first rainy and humid few days this past weekend in central Florida since the temperature has been back up. Thought I'd get lucky going to my spot.... I didn't find anything. Hardly a mushroom of any type in sight. No pinning either. Le sigh...

Well you can most of the time find them year round in Florida with the right conditions but the peak of season when I would come out with Santa Sacks was May and June :super:

I found these a few weeks ago in a pasture near Port Orange, FL. The rain has been sparse so far and one field that reliably produces large quantities of pan cyans is completely dried out, a shame because I have a very friendly relationship with the owners of said field.

These cubes leaned heavily towards the less potent side of the spectrum.

The rain has been disappointing here lately. But there is a pasture/preserve I want to visit when it gets some rain. Camped overnight there and it was gorgeous. I don't know if I'm allowed to namedrop places here, even if it's legal to just go and visit.

My Gymn patch is once again producing

Current making spore prints of the two larger ones so I can finally cultivate em. I imagine it will be a lot of agar work to isolate it without contaminants

Yeah but it was still a nice, social trip. I took the dried mushrooms in that picture which weighed out to about 4 grams but felt closer to around 2. Wild cubensis around here vary a lot in potency but I tent to prefer them to home grown cubes. Very laid back.

Can I ask how much rain you're getting? Like how long does it rain for how many days before you start to notice nice flushes?

Here, it rains hard for at most 10 minutes every other day or so. We havent had a good multiday storm in over a month though and there are barely any mushrooms of any kind growing in the area.

Nice Finds  & Yeah It's Been Raining Pretty Hard On & Off For The Past 4-5 Days, I Gotta Make A New Rain Guage But If I Had To Guess I'd Say We've Gotten Atleast 5-6 Inches So Far, (Houston Area). I've Been Going & Looking Everyday To Every Other Day, Depending On The Rain.

I'll Go Look While It's Raining Too, So That The Ones That Are Mature Won't Get Waterlogged.

I've Always Noticed For This Area, The First Few Good Rains Of May Gets Things Going, Then The Rains Of June, July, & August Produce The Biggest Flushes & The Most Fruits. Truthfully, Doc Has Proven That Cubes Will Fruit Without Rain. Humidity Is A Major Contributing Factor & The Type Of Field.

The Best Fields Are The Ones With Woods, Trees, & A Water Source Flowing Through, From My Experience. If You Know Where Any Compost/Hay Piles Are In A Field That Would Be The First Area Of The Field I'd Check

The seasons for the past 3 years have been horrible in the Tampa area😢 I hope things change here this upcoming summer. Could really change things for me. 10 years ago I was hauling in pounds. Now I'm lucky if I find a quarter ounce.

I went to check a pasture that for years reliably produced large quantities of Pan cyans and only Pan cyans. Sort of a funny story about this pasture. The pasture is adjacent to a large piece of property with three separate residences. The main house is owned by a single man in his late 50s. He's a nice guy and really likes me (although he does think I'm doing research on the pastures soil nitrogen levels.) Behind his house is a small house inhabited by his 90+ year old parents and then behind their house is a large barn with a finished upstairs in which a German woman in her mid 40s lives (pretty sure there is something sexual going on between the man and her. He let's her live on the property in exchange for her watering his flowers and stuff but there's obviously more to the story than that. One time after he had been drinking he told me a very long story about how her husband in Germany forced her to get an abortion and as a result she has permanent scarring in her vagina. I replied with "Uhhhh that's too bad...") When I first stopped by the field I gave the normal spiel about doing research blah blah blah and the man in his late 50s immediately introduced me to his parents. He is fine about me coming over whenever I want to walk around his field but in the beginning each time I arrived I would sort of have to sit down and talk to his very elderly father. His father is a virulently anti-semitic Jehovah's Witness who talks endlessly and exclusively about how the Jews are responsible for killing Jesus. This was the price I had to pay for access to the pasture.

These days I just show up whenever and he waves to me if he sees me. I've convinced him to use no chemicals on the field and to never cut the grass. Today I found this dried, but very blue specimen of Panaeolus cyanescens. When I came by this field in 2015 I could not carry all of the pans there would be so many but now I'm lucky to see a handful.

Fruits from NE Florida

The first forage of the season took me to a small cattle field where I found these. I was just about to call it quits when I found that perfectly mediocre cube and promptly kissed the cap after picking her.

I also gathered a few Pan. Antillarum (inactive), which got my hopes up because I thought they were copes at first.

Two other unidentified fruits on the bottom row taken as a sample for my mushroom journal.

Poor guy is willing to work for free in cattle fields just so he could finish his homework! Bless his heart.

Most cattle farmers in Florida I think are privy to The Secret but hey "if it works it works"

A few cubes. Seems like they're popping up more frequently now that there's been some rain.

My favorite color:

^so those cubes ended up being the most potent wild cubensis (cubenses?) I've ever found. I've picked mushrooms from that same field that have been consistently weak so I was quite surprised when 3 small specimens produced what I feel is equivalent to a 3.5 g experience.

Indeed, although this variability exists both in natural and cultivated psilocybin mushrooms, in my experiences, it seems that natural cubensis have a lower average potency than cultivated ones.
Do you feel this is true? Also, I'm curious if you feel that wild cubensis have a different feel to them than cultivated ones. I know they both contain the same alkaloids but despite my aversion to succumb to anti-scientific psilocybin-mythmaking I feel wild cubensis have a less demanding and abrasive experience than cultivated ones.

Suppose to be quite a little bit of rain in the Tampa area over a couple days. I’m brand new here and pretty inexperienced when it comes to finding shrooms. I have a few cow fields close to my house and I think I’ll check it out tonight. Can I post in this same forum and have help with identification?

These threads aren't really for ID requests. I'd make a thread of your own with pictures and information.

It's also been raining down here in Palm Beach a bit.

So I went out today as soon as it got dark and rather quickly found what I think to be pan cyans. Since this was my first time, I didn’t come very prepared. I didn’t bring a bag or anything. So I’m improvised and set them on one of the wood posts around the cow pasture and continued looking. I found another mushroom I’m not sure of and also sat it up on the post. Fast forward thirty minutes and I’m covered in mosquitoes bites and soaked through because it was lightly raining. I walk back to the post and all my mushrooms are covered in fire ants, except for the one I’m not sure of. They seemed to leave it alone. I happened to have a bottle of water and I poured it on the mushies and they sort of just fell apart. The ants were still all over them so I decided it wasn’t worth it and left them on the post lol. I learned my lesson. Still pretty excited that I found some. Saw a few super tiny ones that may be ready tomorrow. I’ll have to check tomorrow night.

I believe these are pan cyans. Found in a cow pasture in manure. How do I get in contact with people in the Tampa area who want to go hunt?

Not sure where everyone is. I was looking back at the 2019 page and it got a lot of posts.

Also, most people don't like when strangers message them and ask for them to share their spots so I don't recommend doing that.

Nice Pans! I love eating Pan cyans raw, great synergy with :potleaf:

Yes, Depending On The Genetics & Growing Conditions, Cultivated Cubes Can Be More Potent On Average Than Wild Ones, & For The Love Of God They Should Be, With All The Information We Have On Them.

That Said, I've Had Both Strong & Weak From Either.

As For The Feel, It's Possible, But I'd Just Say It Ranges From Person To Person. Everybody Is Different, No Two People Are The Exact Same. Placebo Effect Is Very Real. Believing That Something's Happening When It's Really Not. If You Think About Something Long Enough, You'll Start To Believe In It.

That Said The "Feel" Of A "Trip" Could Also Highly Depend On The Mood You Are In When You Take Them. As Terrence Always Preached.

Spore printed the biggest monster I could find. This is really only half of what I found but at a certain point I figured I had enough photos.

Cattle patty cubes, early bloomers from the first major rains in NE FL. Wish me luck on my first attempt to clone, what would you name this strain?

i know its a little after the fact but what are these?(they look a little fat stemmed to be ovoids right?) i think i find a very similar looking species semi-often in northern GA, maybe minus the mottled gills and blueing at the base of stem and i think i usually find them in lightly wooded areas

they're psilocybe cubensis and only grow on dung in the wild, not on wood.

Yeah, I have been seeing lots of cubensis lately but haven't been stopping to photograph/pick. I only check 3 places on a semi-regular basis and all are currently producing moderately. It's definitely the heart of the season.

look in fields that have cattle (better for cubensis) or horses grazing. it's really that simple.

purple mystic is a made up name for some cultivated mushrooms. you will not pick any wild cubensis that can be described using strain names from online spore websites as they're more marketing than scientific.

Psilocybe Cubensis Is Psilocybe Cubensis.

Wild Psilocybe Cubensis Is Wild Psilocybe Cubensis.

Cultivated Psilocybe Cubensis Is Cultivated Psilocybe Cubensis.

With Cultivated Cubes, The Only Exceptions That Can Be Considered Different, Would Be PE, A's & APE's, & Even The Rust Spored Ones. It's All Just Genetics.

Eh I wouldn't go that far with saying that the only exceptions to the "cube is a cube" axiom are the ones that look very different from a landrace cube. Even between B+ and Golden Teachers there are probably some slight differences due to generations of selective breeding. It's true that in terms of reproduction it doesn't matter what strain a cube is but if radical differences constitute an exception then so should slight ones.

I know this conversation has been ground into the dirt but just my 2¥

Pan. Cyan sightings in NE FL. Cattle patty fresh, delicious.

I kicked one over because I thought it was another pan. antillarum getting my hopes up from an acre away, but when I walked back the poor little stem had bruised bluer than the ocean. I was in a pinch and used a receipt in my wallet to take a spore print before it turned to complete mush.

Mid 80s and rainy afternoons are springing the mycosphere into action. Get your boots friends, hunting season is upon us.

Every Cubensis "Strain", Started From Wild Cubes. Before Anyone Ever Grew Them, They Were Here, Growing Wildly.

Generations Of Selective Breeding Is Why There Are Various "Strains" Floating Around.

Humans Are Different Colors, Different Sizes, Have Different Features, Some Stronger, Some Faster Than Others, Everyone Is Different, No 2 People Are The Exact Same. I Believe The Same Applies To Psilocybe Cubensis.

At The End Of The Day, A Human Is A Human & A Cube Is A Cube.
We Are All The Same Sp, & All Cubes Are The Same Sp.

NE FL
The field is still producing over 1 year after the cattle were removed. How long can cubes keep colonizing a field on old patties?

What's with that purple? Just spores colored oddly from the photograph?

I've found cubensis in fields that have been vacant for almost 4 years.

I drove by a field down a dirt dead end road today and it was matted with bright orange cubensis. Really quite the sight. There was a pickup truck coming down the road so I didn't stop for pictures.

Spores + Lighting In Photo Give It That Appearance, Nice Find

Also, Cubes Will Continue To Fruit As Long As There Is Dung In The Field, The Older The Better

I went back to that field I that I mentioned was "matted." I didn't pick many besides a few interesting looking pans that I have printing. Very pretty mushrooms out there. This is an ideal field: isolated, pretty much open gate, overgrown with tall grass, and free of cattle.

Nice!  Going out in a few hours for my first ever FL hunt...  There are A LOT of cow / horse fields around where I live - just trying to be inconspicuous about it.

Yeah I have several fields close by as well. The one I went to tonight was sketchy. A lot of traffic on a nearby road had me nervous and to top it off I kept seeing cops drive by. I was using my phone light and I think I’m done doing that lol. My buddy and I were talking about investing in some night vision goggles lmao. Also watch out for the cows. And the mosquitoes. And the fire ants

I’m definitely going tonight and tomorrow tonight. Gonna be big yields. My fields have been pumping them out lately. I’ve got several mason jars full of dried. And a couple edible chocolate things I’ve dabbled with. I just wish I’d known it was this easy sooner. I remember I use to pay dumb prices for shrooms back in the day. Acid was cheaper so I always just stuck with that. And I live in the bum fuck of no where and could have been doing this for years but alas better late than never I guess. Also side note, I found some chicken of the woods today and it was delicious. Already posted in a separate thread but whatever lol

Quickly walked through a newly discovered spot. I think it might have been recently picked as there were only a few very dry cubensis and some clusters of inactive Panaeolus.

While it has been very sunny with no rain the last few days, I'd expect the heavy showers of the early week to still be showing themselves, especially in this particular pasture. It's really rare that I come upon a field that has been picked but this one is surrounded by residents on all sides so it's not surprising.

I'll check some more spots after the downpours of tomorrow.

Thank you my friend!!! I've been battling some depression for a couple months, it's been difficult adjusting to everything that's happened over the past year and half. Losing mom, dad and sister so close together has been really hard, even though we were pretty dysfunctional at times. Mom was the last to go back in April,  since then I have pretty much been withdrawn from everything. Taking care of them at my house until their passing helped alot, but also created its own set of problems in my head. The memories of the past year have been overiding all the others,  but hopefully this will pass soon.

We've had some great weather for mushrooms, but I honestly haven't been out much, because I have no motivation. The depression is robbing me of any and all desire to go outside,  not to mention the 85% humidity and 112° Real feel temps, the heat has been a big factor as well.

Keep up the hunt,  thanks to everyone sharing their finds, I love seeing what you are finding!!!!

Im really sorry to hear that man, sounds like a very rough ride you've been on. I don't think anyone could imagine such loss if it has never happened to them; I know I can't. Depression certainly has a way of warping the world. Light is too bright, colors too garish, smells too harsh. I know it's pretty trite to recommend a silly old book to someone suffering with depression but there's this novel called 2666 by Roberto bolano...it's not like it ever cured depression for me or anything but it somehow made depression feel meaningful at least for a while. I can't say the same about any other book to that degree.  Thought I'd put it out there if you're ever looking for something to read.

You don't listen very well.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2263556

& the cop part was a joke, I can see you just don't listen or read rules. Nobody wants to hunt for illegal mushrooms with a person who's only been registered for a day with 3 posts.

It takes most folks a good bit of time & hunting & research to find a good spot & they're not going to just give their spot up so you & your friend can go pick all the mushrooms & disturb the Mycelium & mess up things for the person who originally found it. Nobody is worried about you giving up their spot to other people, their worried about giving it to you & your friend.

Do some research like everybody else had to do & then go hunting & you'll eventually find what your looking for & your instagram account isn't going to make anybody feel better about hunting with you or giving a spot up to you. I mean no offense dude, but I doubt anyone is willing to give you all the answers so you don't have to do any research.

If you want active mushrooms, do the research, read & learn & then put in the work, show your finds & build a reputation or grow them. Those are your options.

Going out tonight, got an nice inch of rain in the Plant City area yesterday. I think I’ll have another good haul. I’ll post some pictures tonight. Anybody else in Florida still going out?

Definitely slim pickings tonight, don’t think it was enough rain. Still found some pretty ones and got some good shots.

Forecast is calling for rain almost everyday this week in my parts. Gonna try again Tuesday

Hello all,
New to the board. But not new to SW FL. Just joined in. Never been active On a discussion forum either. So, please, bear with me as I learn this. I found these mushrooms next to my hound dog Whiskey's grave this misty morning. Most had already sporulated, and we're rotting. I don't have any idea what they are? They had white gills

I took your advice, and did not eat them....I consumed them rectally instead. It all mushroomed out, in the end. Butt, seriously. I'm glad to be on here, in Florida, with this vast array of fungi. Everyday I look I find something to behold. Truly a gift.

I have a field I visited a few years ago in August near Daytona, do you think its too late in the season to find cubes there now?
