Just how foolish are we?
    #1521141 -

"The most foolish people are those who think that they are intelligent, and the most intelligent people are those who know that they are foolish."

No, I didn't get it from a book of Chinese proverbs  Just thought of it now.
Any comments on this statement?

Sorry to rain on your parade, but...

Some Athenian: Who is the wisest person in Athens?
Oracle of Delphi: Socrates.

The same Athenian: Why did the Oracle say that, Socrates?
Socrates: Because I know that* I do not know.

*the Greek word is ambiguous for "that", "that which", and "what".

At least, that's how I remember it.

Oh, you're not raining on my parade at all, I'm in no way claiming credit for having been the first one to bring about such an idea.

I'm aware that many people throughout history have said something along the lines of my statement.

Anyhow, Sclorch, why not post your thoughts on this now that you've clarified that Socrates beat me to it?

"Insert an 'I think' mentally in the above post everywhere I forgot to do so, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me."

we don't know shit.... I try my best to exchange ideas and understand my ignorance - but is that really wisdom? lol there's gotta be more to it..

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

Amnesiac: Anyhow, Sclorch, why not post your thoughts on this now that you've clarified that Socrates beat me to it?

Realizing the limits of one's knowledge is the cornerstone of wisdom.

On a related note...
There is a phrase: "Those who speak, don't know. Those who know, don't speak."
I say this maxim is bullshit. FUCK THAT!
It seems that the writer of a comic strip found in Sunday's paper also agrees with me:

Open-mindedness should be a prerequisite to knowing.

"I" know nothing and everything...it all depends on what you would consider "I" and even in your contextual reality you know some things no matter how simplistic they may seem they are just as important and unimportant as everything else........

are you denying the reality of physical manifestations? I understand the nothingness of which they arise and disappear into - but certainly there is something other than nothing.

The more you know, the more you realize that you don't know.

Your direction depends on the thoughts you make.
