Well I told you in my first reply that Socrates never wrote. You took from that I meant he didn't exist.

And when I tried to clarify you tried to show me I was wrong with google...

I admitted I was wrong. I guess I believed Plato didn't lie about Socrates work actually being Socrates work and used the wrong words to express it. I admit I make and made mistakes. I'm human dude. I'll admit when I'm wrong.

And BTW. You said:

"Thanks for the defensiveness. It is fantastic for my post count."

It was a bit hard to grok what you were trying to say, until you explained yourself in your reply. I was being defensive. Just like everyone is in defending their ideas. I stopped being defensive when I realized I was being ignorant of the facts. I trust you know your shit if you have a BA in philosophy. I would never guessed you studied philosophy though, since you seem to not like it much IMO.

Even if he did write his words out verbatim (which is possible for a good many dialogues) Socrates still didn't write.

Ehh a BA isn't that much.

Yes. I thought I made it clear that I was wrong. I'm starting to become tired. It's getting a bit late .  I'll respond to your other thread tomorrow, if you write anything back today.

If you claim to know nothing, how do you know Socrates did as you said?

Socrates (probably) existed, but it's hard to tell how much of the philosophy attributed to him was actually his, and how much was Plato's embellishment.

Socrates was a relative of Jesus. That's about all we know.

The cat that lives at my house has that name. Another one lives there named Plato. I don't feel comfortable calling them my cats, because I don't own them. I feed them sometimes though.

Get it right or why bother. :braindamage:

i think the athenian council would've rather had socrates leave than execute him. having socrates go into exile would've made a hypocrite out of him and undermined everything he taught, thus securing the sophists' hegemony. a few days prior to his execution, socrates' traitorous friend crito comes to him and attempts to spring him from jail with money to bribe the guards from some mysterious benefactors, most likely, at least from my reading, to be sophists or wealthy patrons of them.

socrates died as he lived; in service to the god.
