Los Angeles - Controversy grew Tuesday about Nadya Suleman, the single mother of octuplets who now has 14 children under the age of 8. Though Suleman has claimed she is able to support her huge brood and did not take welfare payments, reports said that she received food stamps for her six older children and social security payments for three children with disabilities.

Suleman also told NBC that she had no income besides student loans and that she paid over 100,000 dollars of her own money to get the fertility treatment that led to the octuplets.

The reports also said that the estimated 1.5-to-3-million-dollar hospital bill for the complicated Caesarean delivery will be picked up by the state-run medical fund Medicaid.

Do you have any income at all?" NBC journalist Ann Curry asked Suleman during her exclusive interview with the 33-year-old woman.

"At the moment, no," Suleman replied, adding that she intended to use student loans "temporarily" to pay for her family's care.


according to The Los Angeles Times, three of her older children have disabilities and receive supplemental security income. In addition, Suleman reportedly receives 490 dollars a month in food stamps from the state of California.


Nadya acknowledged that she was "fixated" about having a huge family

that is crazy. i'd heard the story about the octuplets, but i didn't realize she was a single mother trying to raise them without income. i feel sorry for that lady's children. that's a terrible abuse of the system...

Saying that she had those 14 kids just to recieve gov checks doesn't sound reasonable. Who the fuck would put up with 14 kids? If anything I'd be happy to get out of the house.

And people that play the lottery are possibly getting a million dollar jackpot.  Until it happens, I wouldn't count the money.  Even if she does, a whole million dollars split fourteen ways over eighteen years.  The US government estimates that it costs $269,520 to raise a child.  After taxes take out from her movie/book deal, she will have enough to raise two of her fourteen children, leaving the rest of us with a three million dollar bill to pay for her fixation with having a large family; assuming that she stops breeding.

I don't consider a three million dollar loss to be a very good entrepreneur... but hey, it is the tax payer, not her that pays for it, so perhaps you are right.  Viva socialism!

I heard about this story and it makes me sick. I have no problem with anyone having as many kids as they want. Have 50 of the little bastards if you can afford them!!

this lady has no possible way to give these kids what they need to survive. She is going to suck off our tax money for the rest of her life. I wouldn't be surprised if most of her kids do the same fucking thing. 

How can we have so many rules and regulations on everything we do in this world, But this unemployed trash bitch can pop out a 14 kids legally. They should take everyone of those kids from her and lock her ass up. We will end up supporting her regardless. If she was locked up the kids might have a fighting chance at life with a foster family.

I hope no one is seriously suggesting she's had all these kids in order to collect welfare payments. That's not a profitable scheme in the slightest.

This has nothing to do with socialism and everything to do with mental illness and a monumental fuckup by the fertility clinic. They should lose their license over this, and probably will. They knew she had 6 kids already because they implanted those ones too.

how do you feel about the 14 children all being delivered free? the last 8 of them costing us taxpayers 3 million dollars....


BTW my wife and i had two children (IMO thats enough) with insurance and they both cost us a few grand to be delivered....

What I want to know is ..  Will the hospital/gov't/authorities allow her to take these children home from the hospital if she can't even provide adequate living quarters/conditions for them?  From what the news reported, she lives in a two bedroom home with her parents?  Where the hell are the other 6 kids sleeping?  In her bedroom?

These kids deserve so much better than welfare.

Well, I don't know what the alternative is. There's no point billing her for 3 million dollars because she'll never be able to pay. But the doctors who delivered those octuplets still have to get paid somehow.
