My poor social skills I deem a direct result of far too much internet communication... Nothing a few drinks won't sort, on a night out.

I spent alot of free time biking...it kinda goes hand in hand with mushrooms alot...think parks, bike trails.

I'm telling ya, if you bike enough around the Bay Area, mushrooms will darn near slap you in the face

i went for a little hike today and had some interesting finds. lots of wax caps of red and yellow. I was happy to arrive at the top of a hill i was climbing only to discover a huge patch of the meatiest chantarelles i have ever found. spent 20+ mins collecting 7+ pounds. saw some other cool mushrooms and grabbed a couple. wish i had my cam on the hunt, what an amazing location..

Wow, very nice! What part of the bay are you finding these? Nothing specific of course, just SF, Marin, oakland, etc.

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

Re: March [Re: CureCat]

jeez, people, don't do that....Don't eat mycelium woodchips

the tannins in the wood are somewhat toxic, or at least you won't feel very good..At the very best it might make a tea, but even then it's not a good idea

there are ways to fruit them indoors, so you don't have to wait for fall again, and there's one pictorial guide to do that right here in the shroomery...yeah it's been a bad year, it's just messed up weather is all

but remember one thing..Nobody is desperate for shrooms...You can wait another 6 months, and you're not going to get the shakes or anything, you're not going to go into a coma for lack of shrooms, so it's nothing to sweat over

that's one of the things I like best about shrooms, and weed...it's not addictive in that way at all...your pain at lack of shrooms is purely psychological

hehe...yeah....I really don't know what tahoe is doing there...but he did post it in this forum, so i figured I'd mention the possibility..

to expand a little bit, it's not really difficult to make a pile of mycelium woodchips (birdseed, I dunno, but they'll eat alot of different things, including spent cigarrete butts :P)

incubating mycelium in plastic bags is fairly easy at any time of the year, once you get a decent start from mycelium outside....Run it on cardboard, etc (mycelium running, stamets)

but it is slow, compared to cubensis, very fucking slow, which is exactly why you don't see this type around too much in the off months, but there is a way, and it has been done, and it is posted on the shroomery >  http://www.shroomery.org/8702/Psilocybe-azurescens-indoor-cultivation

OK?....so, basically all your doing is recreating 'Autumn" conditions, temperature drop down to 45F at night for a week or so, things like that

also, one more important thing, I've noticed larger dug up patches than usual lately..I got a photo of one of them somewhere...people, people, you don't need to do that to patches..just take a small bit, like 1 inch square, and maybe one fruit, and grow out the mycelium and stem butt on cardboard and it usually will get ALOT bigger...THEN transfer it to a woodchip sack/terrerium/fruit bowl, whatever

c'mon folks, read what's out there already, there's plenty of stuff

Re: March [Re: auweia]

here's one example

this is a tiny little city park in San Francisco...It barely makes it onto most maps.. I've picked thousands of cyans out of here in years past, and two days ago, somebody dug this up. and it wasn't the parks department.

My point is, it's not necessary to do this, not even close..If I wanted to take this patch, I could take a shovel and dig up the whole thing, and if I had a trusted friend, I could move it to their backyard, but that's risky, because large scale movement of mycelium like that inevitably results in some 'shock' to the plant...You have to be extra careful when you move large area like that.

for example, when I moved that Richmond spot of japanese types, it was raining the whole day, less shock

there is one park in San Francisco where somebody dug up an entire football field worth of cyans about 5 years ago..I used to pick huge quantities years ago there...big thick ones too, but somebody totally raked it..

as far as I'm concerned, I sure hope they have a huge backyard, because I'm imagining a huge waste when this happened. I have heard nothing since before or after from anybody about this, either through my friends or the larger grapevine, so I'm guessing they screwed up and it died

it's frustrating to imagine a waste like that, but to tell the truth, the parks department is currently digging up that entire field right now..they have CAT backhoes all over it right now, so either way, that field would have eventually been torn up...I just wish I had photos of what it used to be

but back to this one featured picture here....People, please, this square of uprooted grass is not necessary...All you have to do is stick your finger down there and move some soil around and you can see it.

just take an inch or too, take it home, wash it for 30 seconds under a cold faucet, and apply it to wet cardbaord and wait a week or two

ah, by the way, P.S.

that dug up brown spot in the photo, told me that whoever did it, didn't know EXACTLY where the spot was..they missed most of the main spot by XXXXX number of feet, but they probably got a little anyway.

if I were them reading this now, I would wash it under a hose, seperate the mycelium from the dirt, apply it to wet cardboard, and go from there
