Why does it say in the bible that homosexuals go to hell?

I mean, it's not their fault they like guys, right?

I wonder if God really said that, or judgemental Christians and shit changed it to say that? :tongue:

The Old Testament, which contains the verse about homosexuality, was written by heterosexual men.  The same verse (Leviticus) also prohibits eating ferrets, among other ridiculous rules, so we can see just how important and relevant this book is to the progress of humanity.  :rolleyes:

At least it's not in the 10 commandments or is not one of the 7 death sins (or how you call it).
Leviticus was the one who set up rules for the Jewish ancient living as they were moving around in wilderness as shepherds and tribal nomads.
Erm, not many live this way now :lol:

conclusion: Better love your neighbor as a gay or lesbian, than to condemn them, like a part of yourself :laugh:

I'm as Christian as they get and here's my take...

    I'm married and had best be spending all the time and effort I have on loving up my girl, not on what others do, gay or straight or otherwise. Period. Yup, that's about it. Personally, I'm thankful that I've never had the desire to do a man, because I'm straight. Maybe gays find chicks to be a turn off in the same way, I'll never know. Bottom line is that I am NOT to judge others at best, nor am I to stand in the way of "sinners" (those who miss the mark) so either way, I thank God that all the girls I felt lust for before I calmed down won't be counted against me as He is a FORGIVING God. We all miss the mark and those who "hate" gays I figure are part of that group of boys who have done some gayness (or wanna) and play out their hatred of themselves on others.

God is LOVE. :heart:

Homosexuality is supposedly unnatural (though you can find examples in many species in the wild) and it is counterproductive to the spreading of the species. Back in the day they needed more people, now I don't think it really matters. One downside (?) of homosexuality is that your genetic material will die with you.

Well yes! The book was written and re-written as it got passed through each generation.

There never was a book written by God lol. its by humans and its about humans. Every culture has invented its own 'bibles' or sacred texts.

They are like an old version of laws which were enforced through common belief in supernatural ideas such as Gods and demons.

if God was real then even the homo's would be part of his 'loved creatures of Earth'.

You imply that homosexuality is a sin, despite that it seems you carefully phrased your response to avoid the implication. An honest contemplation on your response clearly reveals this.

Personal preference, and speaking of "missing the mark" and "'sinners'" in reference to homosexuality demonstrates that one does place judgement on that personal preference. The notion that some entity, phenomenon, or state of existance recording transgressions and offering forgiveness is unnecessary, unsubstantiated nonsense.

Yeah, I see that now, although I figured we were going on the "standard" platform of approaching homosexuality. I hang out with Christians all day, so I generally start there. If I'm lucky. My bad, no harm meant. Anyway, I'm going based on the belief that being gay is a "sin". If it is, and I do mean if, then so what right? We're all in that boat. The Word says God created marriage to bring forth godly children, so if gays were allowed to marry and adopt, they would have just as much chance to raise godly (Good, loving, caring) children as straight couples no?? It really makes me nuts with the fact that we have a 50% divorce rate (even slightly higher for those who claim to be "church going" Christains) can't keep our "straight" sex lives in check hardly at all, and all we can seem to do is bomb on our fellow man. Promiscuity is a bad thing, but being gay.... I'm not so sure, I don't think my level of understanding can lead me to THE truth on the subject, and overall, crazy as it sounds, I'm just not in the least bit homophobic  :rockon:

What about "straight" couples who choose not to procreate? Is their sex sinful? Should they get pregnant ASAP to please God?

What about couples who can't get pregnant, no matter how hard they try? Should they stop having sex once the doctor confirms their infertility? Should they get divorced from the infertile spouse & find someone with whom they can have godly children?

No, not at all. Hmmmm. I think that the internet not being able to pick up my voice, body language, facial expressions etc. is crippling me here, because the gist of what I am saying is about Christians (of whom there are few on here) If you confess Christianity, then I have a right, if not an obligation, to correct, and be corrected, according to rightly interpreted scriptures in the precise context. To those outside of the church, I have but three duties. To love, forgive, and not judge. Now, this may seem like I'm looking down from some moral high horse because in my experience sadly, it's almost like when a Christian says that, what they're REALLY saying is, "Well, you make me sick, I'm better than you, and you should be thankful that someone as holy/blessed/important as me is willing to forgive you for being so messed up!! Praise Jesus!!!" And I don't get that.
    I would imagine that if Christianity was lived more and what people twisted it into less, I can't see a group of people that anyone would want to hang out with more. We're going to be chill, sharing, loving, peaceful, non-judgmental, use common sense and prudence, and put others before self. But unlike most of my fellow family, I don't see that when I look at most of us. It's a shame.
  Hope I have given no offense to anyone, not in the least was any intended. I'm all about love. Real love. And if there's one thing I know, it's that I'm not sure what love is. But I know what it's not. And trying to deny ANYONE their right to have peace, love, and happiness, as long as they are not hurting anyone, IS NOT LOVE. And I am against it.
    Hopefully that came out a little clearer this time  :crazy:

Why shouldn't he think of it?  If his religion is programming him with negative, dogmatic ideas about homosexuality, sex, marriage, etc...why shouldn't his proclamations be examined?

This is not religious persecution, it is realistic examination of dogma.  The two are often confused by those being "persecuted."  :rolleyes:

Yes, I agree, and have often said so on these boards.  The trouble is, no one seems to be practicing Christianity when they say they are Christians.  I have come to associate the self-proclamation of Christian beliefs with hypocrisy, judgment and bigotry.  Perhaps this is not fair, but it is so often accurate that I maintain the mental association.  :shrug:

I have no problem with you, and it sounds like you already have some doubts about those who call themselves Christian, so you must be using your brain as well as your Bible.  :wink:

King James put that in the New Testament in the year 1612 AD. There is no word for homosexual in Biblical Greek - the language the New Testament was written in. Actually, it is more like homosexuals 'do not inherit Eternal Life' (versus being thrown into 'Gehenna' [which was a metaphor: Gehenna was an actual place where garbage was burned and it smoldered continually, brought rats, stunk, etc.]).

The real reference to 'sodomy' is first found in the Old Testament book of Genesis in which two angels who look like men come to Lot's house in Sodom (the act's namesake) and Gomorrah, and want to 'sodomize' the strangers. Lot actually offers his virgin daughter to the crowd of ass-rapists but before anything further can ensue, the angels strike all of the sodomists blind! This mob of ass-rapists is what comes to symbolize a level of moral depravity that so offends YHVH, that He rains fire and brimstone on the twin cities, completely destroying them.

In the OT, there is little talk of afterlife conditions (the Hebrews had a shadowy realm of 'Sheol') so moral reward and punishment was enacted in worldly dramas.

We are ALL sinners in the eyes of Christianity. This is why he said he is in no place to judge. His first post was clear in its intent, i did not get any sense that he was proclaiming judgment upon anyone. In fact he stated clearly that whatever the reality is, as far as he is concerned, he is in no place to judge others personal actions and cast the first stone. This is a very basic teaching of Jesus, and counteracts in itself any "negative" programming that can guide actions and intent towards others.
