anyone every seen alien v.s. preditor? well they say that the preidtors where like gods to humans and taught them basic building skills.this seems believable to me i mean why would Egyptians make a building in a pyramid shape they must have been taught this.they believe in many gods and this seems believable becuz aliens would not come alone.and all the pyramids are in a specific location.i dont think this is by chance.maybe aliens are just like us looking for intelligent life in the universe and found earth with homosapiens
and taught them primitive building and survival skills.and just come and check on us once in a while to see how we are doing...lol :blazed:

Why should we fear the unknown. I don't. And I also do not place false values to it either. Death is an end. A cease to life's functions. That's all. There is no need to fear that. Why should I need to go on forever. It is much better that I make the world a better place for future generations to live in. That will be my eternity, my life after death. I don't want to waste this time that I'm here by spending it preparing for a lie. I'd rather use my time wisely, preparing a place for my children to prosper.

In my view, religions are the ultimate representation of selfishness. A way to say, "See, I'm going to live forever". Most people are to self involved to recognize that they will cease to exist one day. They need a way to beat death, so they created god and the after life.

I would agree with most of what you've said. But as far as saying that religion is just a way of people convincing themselves that they can beat death is too simple. I think the concept of god has to be distinguished from religion first. To me God or Gods or god is just the recognition that there is an overarching principle or force that draws all life on earth together, a force from which we came and to which we go at death. We feel it's presence but cannot fully grasp or comprehend it, but we language it as "god". Maslow's theory of Peak Experience is exactly what I'm talking about. When we break in on this force through ecstatic experience, when we witness it first hand for ourselves, that is where the god concept truly exists. I've had a handful of experiences that lead me to believe that this force actually exists.

Am I religious? No. In my mind the concept of god is outside of religion because religion is someone else's experience handed down to others and codified as a principle of organization. It says you can do this, you are not allowed to do that, and this is how you must proceed. It's a man made straight jacket. If it helps someone get through life then I'm glad for them if thats what they feel they need. Too often its an excuse to hurt others, the examples are endless. When religions keep it simple they are almost universally in agreement; don't steal, don't lie, don't kill, respect your parents, and so forth. Thats code of conduct for any group of people living together, its necessary. It's ideology and dogma that gets people killed, that convinces people that horrible crimes are justified in some way. Direct god experiences, Peak Experience, has no need of organizations, dogma, or ideology. It is what is Numinous. Does it mean life after death? To me not necessarily, just live in the now, when we die who really knows what happens with certainty? As you said live wisely, thats all we have to be concerned with, thats all we can do as individuals.

Ekstaza I did not say stop finding other science I simply said that there are SOME things that science will never explain. I have no problems with science in fact I follow the latest in science closely. Many unexplained things happen all the time in our world, who is to say that after death there is not something else? I dont know either way, but my gut says reincarnation is a good possibility.

Its not important though for me to believe in God. There is a shape or a form that all things follow, a commonality. IMO this is the shadow of God. Trying to define God is like trying to hold on to a handful of water. It always slips through your fingers, but your hand stays wet, proof that the water exists somewhere. The damp hand is like the natural world.

Hi, first of all let me start by saying this, why waste your time arguing if there is a God or Goddess, reason being people, by nature are the most stubborn hard-headed living creature there is, if you don't believe me re-read this post and others as well and you will see where someone say's something that goes against somebody's beliefs, before you know you it you have a bunch of pissed people, who STILL think the way they do. So, you have to ask yourself what have you gained? And if you feel that you gained something just because someone replied "I agree" or "you know you could be right", then you are DEAD WRONG, Why? Those that agree already believe in the same thing you do, and for those who say that you COULD be right, really aren't SURE what they believe, they are lost and they are looking for somewhere they can "fit in". I BELIEVE in GOD, but I don't expect everyone to agree with me. Now what I find truly baffling is: The majority of the people that belong to this community are always talking about defending your FREEDOM, now as I re-call The United States of America was founded by people who wanted to have the choice of what they wanted to believe in, no matter what it was, therefore I don't think that any religious belief, saying, phrase, or anything to do with ANY religion should be abolished. I personally find it hard to believe that I evolved from some hairy little monkey, or better yet I REALLY find it hard to believe that "we are just here and there is no God", why? because stop for a second and look at the world around you, and behold it's beauty and all of it's splendor, It just didn't happen for no reason. Everything has a creator, that computer that you are sitting in front of right now, was created by someone, the place you call home, and everything that took to make that home had a creator, and as far as humans and animals, and the earth we inhabit, also had a CREATOR. But I do not expect you to believe this, but I do, and I'm happy with it, just like you are happy with what you believe, and if you are truly happy with what you believe then you won't need a few people to agree with you just to make you feel comfortable with you life-style.

About the fear stuff - my point is we all have fear. Who hasn't been afraid of the dark as a child?

Almost everybody experiences fear of the unknown. Therefore we actively try to answer questions that we cannot.

We (humans) naturally prefer to accept the lies of another over the option of open posability.
