You're probably right, but I don't have to like it.


legit curious what qualms you have with Pete.  I think he's very qualified and I support him, but I'm not at all supportive of the dems fronting him as a nom.  dems need to deal with reality and realize that a hetero white christian man with liberal ideals is the most electable individual at this point in the USA.  Pete will lose to whatever asshole white christian nationalist and the hate propaganda that republicans put against him. 

at this point the dems are absolutely stun locked by being stuck in a game where the other player is cheating and there are no immediate consequences.  they seem unable to find someone with ideals and balls, which galls me to no end. it fucks me off that AOC and Jasmine Crockett absolutely see through all of this bullshit but have a snowballs chance in hell of winning a *really* consequential office any time soon.  in a better American reality, dems could run AOC and/or Crockett and win.

He didn't cause it, but he's ultimately responsible since he was the transportation secretary at the time.  Same goes for Biden.

you're wrong.  they are responsible for the response, not the derailment.  additionally they work within the bounds of the law which defer to local officials unless they ask for supplemental federal assistance.

The derailment was a product of lax regulation, though...It's hard to argue that the federal government isn't responsible to some extent.  That makes the administration responsible.

It sounds like you're confusing blame with responsibility.  When Biden took the job, he accepted responsibility.  When Pete took the job, he accepted responsibility.  You don't get to take a job and then wash your hands of any responsibility for anything that happened before you came into office.  Every administration has responsibility for dealing with the country as it was when they took office.

Also, this was over 2 years into their tenure...so if there was a problem, they were responsible for fixing it.

thats childishly naive.  lets act like adults and actually trace responsibility and ability to counteract bad-faith legislation for what it is. a bad faith admin can break things at 10x the rate a good faith admin can fix them.  thats how we ended up here.  fucking things up and then blaming the next administration for failing to put the fires out in time has been GOP 101 for like 50 years.

The response was abysmal.

Still, from what I know of Buttigieg, I think he is a genuinely very intelligent guy, and a decent person.

My mind could potentially be changed on that, but I think he'd be worth showing up for.
