Finally getting some rain and cooler temps after a week+ of mid to upper 80's. Do you guys still have luck for late spring finds after temp swings like that? Or does a week of hot and dry weather shut it down?

Got out a lil bit yesterday and today.  Not a whole lot going on, but at least saw something.  Scored a good bit of wine caps along a mulched section at least. Looking forward to the cooldown next week.  Things are getting really hard to look thru at this point.  The nettle is 4-5 ft tall and the grass is over a ft in some areas.  The bugs are getting pretty annoying too.  Won't be long till it's time to get outta the flood plain and onto the ridges in search for chants n trumpets.

Some things from yesterday

Pic from today (only 1 because my white balance was off and the others are too green for me to post)

Revisited the honey hole today. From the looks of things this patch never stops producing. Should have waited a few more days or went last week, but it is what it is and its a long drive. Ended up feeding them some fresh wood chips and set up another patch under a boxelder with the same type of foliage growing under it. Hopefully that goes well.

On a side note. We just had a torrential downpour with heavy flooding. I'm sure this will be a game changer in my parts.

LoL, luck of the draw I guess. It did nothing but rain all month here. This flooding can't be good tho.. I'm sure it wiped out a few of my patches. Reading threw this thread suggests it may even effect next year. Who knows.

Koods the storms have passed by my way and it is dry.  But something is going on this year.  Even when it was nice and wet they still didn't fruit good here even in the protected wood chips.  Normally in April it is too cold and we're rubbing our hands together in anticipation and then those fluke 90 degree days come and then people complain about it.  This did not happen this year.  Could it be that the soil just didn't warm up in time?  The myc in my spot is just surfacing.  I hope late start means they will hold on longer and fruit well into July

April temps were slightly above normal. The winter was slightly above normal. April precipitation was slightly below normal.

There’s nothing about the weather that was significantly different than other years.

Yeah Gman...that is chaga which I look for every year I go up there which I make tinctures to help my RA. Relic...the elk herds are phenomenal! there must have been 50 of them grazing in a field like cows, lol. I have yet to meet a wild bear that didn't care to be around me less than me him....they always seem to run. The fishing was amazing and yeah, got to go with my sons and close friends.
These were pics taken by my older son.

Awesome, man.  Sounds like a great time and thx for sharing the pics.

Also St.Myco stop picking pins. :oldman:

I don't think it's unreasonable to pick a few pins if it's a decently far location you don't expect to check again soon

Just got back from my fishing trip in North Central Pa....didn't find any ovoids, but nature was amazing...a newly born fawn, and some of the biggest morchella that I have ever seen. Also saw a black bear momma with 2 cubs and a large herd of elk that I didn't get pics of.:sunny::peace:

Awesome pics Thayen!

Gonna go this afternoon to see what has become of the massive mulch fruiting I found 2 weeks ago.  Hoping to add to the seasons larder!

Checked out a spot today with TroutBum and had better luck this time.  Wasn't hard since we didn't even see a single one on the last hike.  He was able to observe his first couple of small clusters, so that was pretty cool.  The area we went to was bumper last yr, but this yr has only fruited around 10% of what it's done in the past.  At this point I'm just looking forward to seeing what happens next season with all the fresh debris and the spots I've hit up with the more northern variety.  All in all was a very nice day and I'm just stoked we were able to observe as many as we did.

Some of today's finds.

Well maybe with the strange circumstances the autumn fruiting will be abundant with the dormant mycelium that never fruited?
