I’m pretty surprised that essentially everything that was just coming up last weekend are now completely rotten. Not a good situation for any new fruits popping up in moldy celandine and the black slime left behind when a cluster goes. The bug situation is out of control. Even new fruits are hosting maggots that destroy the caps in a day.

nows the time for mulch beds imo.

I’ve been looking at mulch all morning. It’s pouring and cold and my feet are about to fall off.

Same...its pouring down cold rain. It looks like a bunch of diff species have popped up overnight, though. The fungus is calling my name...

My beginners luck seems to have run out, think its just a waiting game, night temperatures are still below 50F. My first find was next to a gravel road that sits in the sun all day, and my 2nd right behind a massive wood chip pile that also sits in the sun. Both probably have warmer ground temps. Cant find any fungus in the wooded areas but not for a lack of trying. Some clearings are showing signs of life but no actives yet.

Beautiful looking stuff everyone! I'm really amazed at how many ppl are finding their first ovoids this yr.  :super:
Looking forward to these next 2 weeks.  This cold front n slow moving system should work out perfectly.  It's about time we got something like this.

Went out yesterday and not too much was going on.  Found a number of randoms and some small clusters.  There was a good amount of pins tho, so it looks like some areas are gearing up for another flush.  Hopefully the areas that have been holding back will finally do a lil something too.  Here's some of the things we came across yesterday.

I honestly think this was an early flush my patch gave me they started drying out so I took them. I usually dont see any ovoids till after the 15th of may here.

The mulch patches around the area are just starting to pin now, and I cant freaking wait

This is about the only thing I've found outside of my patch.

Gotta love the blue nips

And this is why so many new to observing ovoids have a hard time finding them they hide just under the vegetation.

Sorry for the double post :pipesmoke:

I had to abandon caution and dive into 2 foot high grass and poison ivy and get the good fruits today. I just went hard for 20 minutes and then rushed home and took a shower to get ivy juice off me. Hopefully that will work. I suppose I will know in a day or two. If it doesn’t it could be bad.

I thought it was normal to endure the poison, stinging nettle, and thorns in the tall grass. Took me about a week to realize these fuckers love to hide.

I pulled 23 dried grams yesterday in the rain but I had to crawl on my hands and knees to find them. I can see why it's so hard for noobs to find them. If the season is still just getting started I should make a good haul my first year. Already found a total of around 60-70 grams this year.

Nice to see everyone finding some....like Koods, I found several rotten ones and a few keepers on the Central Pa. Susquehanna. Also some perfect Stropharia (wine caps)that were cut up and sauteed with garlic and butter with some burgers. I got hit with a bunch of pin head size ticks that ruined my day...must have hit a nest of some new hatchlings.

Glad to hear that Jersey is alive and well G!

Spraying for what? Weeds? That could happen but ovoid clusters look like a hazmat situation when they die off. Like a black stain that even kills the vegitation nearby
