Who's actually creating change in the world today?

Are the corporate lobbyists buying the lawmakers in Washington liberal?  NO.

Are the people at the Pentagon running the world's most powerful military liberal? NO.

Are the CEO's, board of directors and shareholders running the largest global corporations liberal?  NO.

Are the professors at universities lecturing naive students on theoretical concepts liberal?  YES.

it's obvious that conservatives want reforms. the situation is that the world has changed and something needs to be done about it. but rather than seek reforms that try to allow for a different world, like liberals do, conservatives seek reforms that try to force the world back into a state that it once was. conservatives now seek something like reagan era reforms - lower taxes on businesses and wealthy individuals, less spending on social programs etc. etc. etc. the irony is that all of that has been done before, and it is precisely why we're in the mess that we're in. but that's beside the point. conservatives generally want to go back to old solutions and liberals generally want to seek new ones to address the current state of affairs. and with conservatism in its current form, we have a uniquely faulty belief system that promotes and enforces conservative views through dogma.

the reigning ideology in all of those groups is neoliberalism, which is a central component of conservative ideology. it's a distortion of classical liberalism. and it's been around since reagan. so again, status quo, going backwards etc. etc. etc.

Trump's tagline is literally a reference to the past, and Brexit is about returning Britain to its former glory.

Thats regression. If you want to call it change, fine, but lets not confuse that with progress.

we have less people living in open sewers at the global level. that's good. but at the national level, we have less members of our middle class than we had in the 70s. and by that i mean over 20% less people. that's bad. and we can thank our current form of capitalism for both of those things. can we do better? absolutely. should we do better? that depends on how seriously you take the problem of inequality and all of the awful things that invariably follow from it. i take it very seriously.

as far as conservatives being bad people, i never said that. i obviously think that conservatives are misled. but i've also said that underneath the identity politics, racism, misogyny and red meat issues that dominate our politics, there are identical economic concerns. it's naive to assume that we will ever fully come together on certain issues. but if everyone held a larger stake in their society, perhaps those disagreements would be easier managed. and again, this starts with having a more inclusive economy. we're just not going to get there with more of what we've had.

if there was a straight-way course of action, and enough conflict of ideas, the conservatives & the liberals (the fringes which are now the norm, that is) would kill each other, without a second thought.

PS: Stephen Crowder is at least one conservative that can see that Trump is mostly a left leaning conservative -- and interesting viewpoint, to hear criticism of Trump from someone on the right.
