So, apparently profit margin has nothing to do with productivity calculations.

Yeah, profit margins are another aspect, but labor unit costs are obviously very important.

Another aspect of what? Of business? Or of productivity calculations?

Neither labor unit costs, nor profit margins are relevant in 'productivity' calculations. Just for the record. At least, according to the way google has outlined the method by which these calculations are made. It is essentially quantity of product created divided by work hours invested. That is not the same as revenue produced divided by wages paid, or quantity of product created divided by wages paid.

Yeah, like it's just that simple.  Why don't African nations just give their citizens money so the can consume more?

You do realize the consumers also have to be productive?   Somehow Ball missed than one important detail in his rant.

Clearly your definition of productive is different than that of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).  Regardless, if workers are producing a product and getting paid for it, it's them spending that money drives the economy, per Ballsalsa's point.

What does it matter who spends the money?  Consumers have also been known to hoard money.

What does it matter? It matters a great deal...

Consumer spending drives our economy and creates jobs.

Example A) CEO makes $10M a year. Buys one lunch a day, buys one car, buys one house, one cell phone, one tv. Stashes everything else either in much lower taxed investments, or in tax shelters outright.

Example B) 200 workers maks $50k a year. Buy 200 lunches a day, 200 cars, 200 houses, 200 cell phones, 200 tvs.

Which do you think is better for the economy? Or does it not matter who spends the money?

Consumers hoard money :lolsy: Thats why they all have massive debt levels, right?

"CEO makes $10 million year"

How did you get here?  I just said workers aren't the only people that can spend money.

"Consumers hoard money"

Did you forget about the Great Depression?  Maybe you never spoke to your relatives about that era, most of them could never stop their hoarding mentality even when it was over.

A century ago.

Back when economies were structured much differently. Women didnt work. Urban centers were much smaller. Much much more rural agricultural workers.

What is your point here qman???  That we SHOULD continue to give all our money to the rich to help the economy?????

Who's giving "all our money to the rich"?  I don't send money to Gates and Buffett.

We have the largest wealth and income inequality in over 80 years?  That's under Obama's watch, under Hillary that inequality will only grow larger.

Why would you think potentially collecting more Federal taxes would help the working class?  Do you really think they're going to send everyone a monthly check or something?  No, more likely than not they will piss it away on military and technology contracts, helping those shareholders.

You trust the people that created and passed the ACA to redistribute wealth to help the working class?  Not a chance in hell.

Our money is going to the rich through huge tax cuts.

Only if Hillary continues the devastating tax cuts for the rich.  If Hillary raises taxes on the super wealthy, income inequality will go down.

You don't think more money for infrastructure, education, medical care, etc. helps the working class?  Wow.

qman said:

That's what needs to be done to reduce income inequality.  I would have trusted Bernie to do that, I'm not sure about Hillary, but I KNOW for a fact Trump won't do it.

Its a lot more efficient if we continue to derail every single thread by repeating ourselves.
