You fail to mention the fact that when the bible was written it was in an ancient vernacular. We have no accurate way of translating that bullshit filled book into anything even reasonably resembling the original.

I dont believe it is. It doesn't matter if God created us and we're one. God is beond our concept, how can we possible put what he thinks into words? This is what man changed it to. Language is already limiting enough, there is no way God could give his thoughts to humans which put them on paper, then have it go afew thousand years getting translated into different languages the way those people understand it and then we read it and interperate it now and the idea is still fully intact.

Humans cant even play the game telephone w/o changing the message :frown:

The bible is the exact word of the roman government.
The roman government killed jesus.
therefore, the bible is the Warren report of the Roman empire. If you believe that Oswald shot Kennedy, then the bible is for you.

That aside, there is alot of good stuff in the bible- but its not the only book out there, and Jesus had a lot of words cut and pasted into his mouth by roman scholars. Any place in the bible where jesus says that he is the only son of god and the only way into heaven is through him is bullshit. Jesus would have never said that... it takes an ego to say something like that, and Jesus didn't have one.

Still, those monks forgot to edit out some of the more dangerous (to the centralized roman power structure, that is) verses:

"If ye had but faith, ye could move mountains"
"Except ye be converted as little children, ye will not be allowed into heaven"
"I am the son of god, and all of mankind are my brothers."

Also, read the gnostic writings (gospel of ST Thomas, book of Enoch, etc...) There are some distortions there too, but with good judgement and all the pieces, the puzzle isn't too hard to put together...

I hate to keep bring up the same movie over and over around here, but in Waking Life there is a scene called "The Holy Moment" (my favorite scene..) where this dude is talking about film being a "record of God."

This could be applied to old literature as well - the idea that anything we write or record outside of our brains is kind of like a record of God, a record of reality - The Word of God.

too bad I don't believe in God.. I see it more like how I put it above: "a record of reality."
