One man's flame :flame: is another man's flame-thrower :flamethrow::devil:  Did you feel that you were being flamed by the suggestion that you enjoy imbibing the fruit, Citrus limon?  I didn't think that you'd blow the mod whistle because I suggested that your optimism over the topic being discussed had 'soured' over time. You're a lot tougher skinned than that. Perhaps your buddy thought he was standing up for you, not that you need anyone's assistance. I saw it like getting a speeding ticket, with points, for doing 26 mph in a 25 mph zone, with no courtesy warning. Of course, if you actually WERE offended, allow me to apologize here and now, publicly.

We both know that it's not a waste of time being here, it's an outlet. I did take the time to complete the book I've been working on for 4 summers, and get more involved in a couple other social networks. It's a thunderstormy day :cloud:  here in Miami, and I'm on holiday til mid August.  Took 1/4 Modafinil® and expected to finish reading Stolaroff's The Secret Chief Revealed (but didn't).I baked an oat-wheat bread, researched more vegan burger recipes, drained  a few inches of pool water, turned on the Kreepy Krauly for a bit, received a big box from Vitacost® and gave the UPS guy an umbrella 'cause he was soaked, did a little FB interaction, helped m'Lady with a lentil 'meat' loaf recipe, did a little rebounding, pulled some weeds, mindfully, while watching another thunderstorm approach, replanted the top of a home-grown pineapple that we ate yesterday, and here we are. See, I have a life.

I am doing my thing. I am in society, but I am not of society. Common social behaviors like watching sports, eating junk food, or playing golf are just too shallow or too stupid to hold my interest, and I have never been afraid to be myself at the expensive of 'belonging' or going along with the crowd, just to avoid being alone. I realize that most people will take my recent veganism as an insult to their culture, or as a refusal to go out to restaurants, or to a few acquaintance's homes. Food all by itself is not a venue for interaction with others, and this has successfully eliminated the last two nice but boring marrieds from "hanging out." They've never had any intersecting interest with me, but are so bored with their lives that they've been visiting us for the past 16 years with NEVER a discussion about ANY of the subjects I've EVER discussed at The Shroomery. I used vegetarianism as a late teen to extricate myself from my mother's emotional manipulation with food to bring me home from college for dinners. Spare me from the remaining aging yuppies, preppies, jocks, materialists and other cultural dullards, I'd rather be alone.

Nice try but no one gets such  a long ban without an extensive history of shorter bans and warnings.  Do you think I and others haven't noticed your attacks on people who disagree with you over the years here?

Whatever was the trigger for this ban it was a final straw that broke the camel's back.

You did this to yourself. You are not a victim. :nono:

If you choose not to use negative personalisms or outright flames you are perfectly safe here as am I.

IMO you are just aligning yourself with another group or part of the culture. The part or group that claims it's not of culture.

Just because I don't watch TV, and am not religious, am not political, and don't appreciate most peoples mindsets, spend most of my time alone etc. does not mean I'm not of culture.  My actions are within the cultural framework still.  I just choose minority positions.

Cubby-hole away, if that's what you like to do. I am not aware of my alignment with any social entity in American culture. I am still cubby-holed by people who only see the externals of my existential self. One woman gave me a Hanukkah card every year for a decade, simply because my last name sounds Jewish (it could as well be Islamic). I realize that if it 'walks like a duck, and talks like a duck,' but I don't sound culturally Jewish, nor do I take off from work on High Holy Days. Not strongly identified culturally there. The culture may identify with deeper values like  ethics or education, but these are not Jewish qualities, they are deeper.

We all are born into a mother-culture, and many people who do not wave stars and stripes at every opportunity, or claim to be true Americans by virtue of their family history, Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, do identify strongly with their ethnicity. It is Very evident in Miami-Dade County where Hispanics outnumber everyone (especially Cubans), followed by Caribbean peoples (mostly Haitians), and White Americans at 11%. Within the 11% are Eastern European Jews, some aging WASPs, a few Italians, Polish, etc.. Most people identify with their cultural-ethnic-religious makeup. They often believe that the foods they prefer, the church they attend, the politics they support, are core values. I disagree with them. I don't think most people have any idea what lies deeper and deeper - below their ego-defenses, below their psychodynamics (most of which are still unconscious, unresolved childhood traumas), way below their conscious attitudes imposed by their parents, ethnicity, cultural programming.

Now, as I said, and as you generalize - other people want to cubby-hole me in categories of their own design, but my social isolation is evident that I neither align myself locally with others, nor they with me, because there are insufficient points of overlap to form the social entity called friendship between us. It is insufficient to create social bonds with others based on negatives, like I'm not violent, malicious, insulting, or dishonest. I might therefore be perceived as safe, and maybe a nice guy. OK, I'm a nice guy. So what? What do you want to talk about? What do you want to do together? Right now, I'm into communicating. It's a 5th chakra quality. I like to come from my 5th chakra - meaningful communication, not cell-phone chatter. This is one of my defining characteristics, so technically, I am aligned with others who like to do the same. Do we not say we like someone when we realize that we are like someone?

BTW, you have only mentioned negatives in your self-definition - what you withdraw from behaviorally. You have not mentioned a single thing that you stand for, that represents the constellation of related values that defines your core as an individual. As the caterpillar asked Alice, "Who are you?"  Rhetorical question here. I'm more interested in people asking the question, and responding with their character, than reading/hearing anyone's answer.

Well that run of posts was interesting to say the least.

Markos, I suppose you are correct to say this is the end of our discussion. There are larger arenas of thought, I think, that our discussions have but echoed. While I am still on a quest to understand some things, particularly magic mushrooms and what part it plays in my future, I am indelibly wed to the belief that the Bible is history, and Christ is enthroned this very moment. Perhaps you prefer "ignorance" over "sin" as Joseph Campbell, presuming the idea of debt and payment to be proposterous, and that the garden of Eden is too simple for an evolutionist like yourself (assuming you are). But I have yet to discover or hear about a God "from whom and by whom all things come, to whom and for whom all things go," who has not only created all, but sustains all. This God, whom you refer to as an unknowable mystery, is morally perfect, righteous and upright. He is not merely One in whom all live, move, and have their being, but seeks to reveal himself to the whole world as the all-sufficient One. Man's moral failure is an insult and injury to his majesty, when his majesty ought to have been honored and upheld in the most complete and perfect way. A holy God, I believe, approves and loves righteousness, and hates lawlessness, which is sin. Illumination may shine forth knowledge into the mind, but it cannot cover nakedness, or remove the shame of failure. Campbell has indeed brought the power of myth to the world's attention, but he was just a man, and took his torch only so far. His eyes were blinded from seeing the true glory, that the eternal One alone is capable of worshiping and identifying with himself acceptably. This he did in the gospel, when he condescended in the man Christ Jesus, who worshipped God with the sacrifice of his body, for a "sweet smelling aroma." And to show how glorious this act of worship was, God arranged that first all things should be lost to infinite debt, in order for all things to be reconciled back to himself by the purchase with his own blood--he made covering for man's unrighteousness, and declared justification of life. Campbell should have seen this. I beg you to consider my young and unintellible words. "God in these last days has spoken to us by SON, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe, who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the declaration of his power when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high."

Whatever. Flowery, emotion-laden, and especially devotional language that has obviously been indoctrinated in someone just leaves me cold. Been there, and done that in extremis.  Enthrone your imagination as you will. You live in  a 'cardboard' reality as far as I am concerned, unaware that Reality can only be hinted at by myth, midrash, metaphor, and metaphysics. Apparently, all of these words are lost on you, so we can communicate no further. We are all Free to cultivate our minds as we see fit, thank God! Have a nice life. Adios! :bye:

I don't know, am I "indoctrinated"? I believe my passion springs from my own study. The first experience I ever had of GOD was while I was sleeping, at around the age of 16. There I stood in the crowd of people outside. And I knew, "HE" was here, "HE is carrying his cross." Then I looked, and I saw him, bright and clean, looking at me. I felt him see me, and know me. If he spoke, he would have said, "your life is as it is, yet I go to die for you." So great a shame came up within me that I immediately felt weight push my head to the ground with one great cry, and I awoke. Perhaps it is that my imagination is strong in the metaphors of this world--I mean, you truly have a hand (I'm assuming you have two hands), and though it is that your weak and temporal hand stands for something much greater, solid, and eternal, it is an adequate symbol to convey the idea of strength, work, and service. As you and I discussed in the beginning, these metaphors of life are indeed merely symbols, yet sacred in so much that they are the keys to understanding reality, yes, the uncreated God himself, who created all things to show forth and communicate his glory, that we as men and women might receive the knowledge of his glory, and reflect it in our rejoicing in that glory. I see no flaw in my reasoning.
