Explaining why life after death exists
    #1402273 -

I haven't tripped for very long time on ketamine.(more then a year, even more). Anyway, thinking what is "mind" doing after you die, took me back to some k trips.
You all know k is a dissociative. It disconects the mind from the body. What is mind doing after has nothing to do with body?.. Trips of course. Exits the body. Exits the "prison" (something like a k trip).
The final trip(death) is unique in his way. Might be like a k dose, but I think that there are other factors around that change the quallity of the trip. I think you got it. Any ideas?

The distinction isn't between mind and body, but between mind and brain. Do people on fully-dissociative K trips still have electrical activity in the more conscious parts of their brains? I don't know.

I think that for consciousness to contemplate it's own end is like a television contemplating the end of it's programs. Consciousness is the only thing I know. Everything else comes to me through him.

Maybe not. Cannabis trees?

I don't believe in life after death but sometimes think there is, b/c it'd be nice. Seems like the "Life after Death" is just reasurrance.

But who knows.

I'll believe it when I see it.

There's much more to the mind that just the brain. If it was that simple, we'd all have the same personalities and think the same.

If you don't believe in it, you'll probably never see it.

Reading " The Holographic Universe ", i came across a story where a child had had a near death experience. He described it as walking into his mind, i wonder how big his mind was? was it flat like the earth, or round like the earth?

This is not proof that life after death exists. You have made a huge leap in logic.

Many would argue that the mind is part of the body, and it dies with the body.

As we have yet to contact a mind outside of a body, this is pretty hard to argue against though some will try.

Huh? On what do you base this terse statement? All predictions based on contact with an alien mind or god or angel or demon or deceased human have fallen flat.

If there were contact with another mind then there would be consensus as to the message that was being transmitted. There isn't. The best we can do is to take a large dose of psilocybin and deceive ourselves that we are in touch with another mind, when in reality, it is our own.

Right before you die, your brain releases DMT and sets you on that adventure. And from what I've read, what you said sounds an awful like a trip report.

I can't accept that conciousness is simply the result of a certain complicated arrangement of protons, neutrons, and electrons. I believe that there is a necesary spiritual ingredient to the human body to make it "work."

Memories are stored in the brain, so I'd imagine that after death, your spiritual part would not have access to the previous state in its entirety. There's certain life lessons which carve such an indelible impression on your unified being, that you will improve from them even as your physical memory is discarded. I guess thats approaching buddhist philosophy, where the soul ammasses experience in each reincarnation until they finally break out of the cycle into enlightenment.

I always ponder that when I'm stoned, and I deeply believe in it. It puts some meaning into my life, for the more I learn, the more substance my spiritual essence has to go on.

Throughout history there have been examples and stories of people coming into contact with people who have "passed on", so to say that "we have yet to contact a mind outside of a body" is a pretty bold statement.

Stories we have by the truckload. So what? The mediums Edward and Von Prague have hundreds of thousands of believers and endless stories, yet they are still frauds.

A story is ONLY the starting point for an investigation NOT the end point; nor is it evidence.

From a Vajrayana point of view (the Tibetan versions of Buddhism and the authors of the Tibetan Book of the Dead), it is a gross error to associate states of consciousness, no matter how subtle, with the Ultimate Condition of Sunyata.

Similarly, the Bible speaks of the Ultimate Reality in terms such as "No eye has seen, nor ear heard, no mind conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him." (1 Corinthians 2:9). In Christianity, it is not a matter of 'life after death,' but of Eternal Life. Eternal Life begins in THIS life, and continues beyond bodily death. Eternal Life is the Life of God, which can suffuse and transform human nature here and now.

Other parallels for the Transcendental Nature of Ultimate Reality can be found among the holy writings of all the world religions. If psychedelic experience can help an individual detach from the conceptual structures - images, dogmas, false ideas - that are residuum from childhood, and if the notion of an ever-receding horizon of Awareness is enhanced by psychedelics, then the value lies in the strengthening of one's faith, whatever that faith is.
