the apparent duality of spirit and matter

What is this duality of which you speak? How do spirit and matter appear to be separate?

It's always interesting to see someone bring up my grandfather's work. John Cobb is my grandfather, so I'm well acquainted with process theology. I went to see him give a speech up here recently.

MarkostheGnostic said:
"Process theology is sometimes called 'dipolar theism,' in contrast to traditional theism with its doctrine of divine simplicity. For Charles Hartshorne, the two 'poles' or aspects of God are the abstract essence of God, on the one hand, and God's concrete actuality on the other. The abstract essence is eternal, absolute, independent, unchangeable...The concrete actuality is temporal, relative, dependent, and constantly changing. In each moment of God's life the are new, unforeseen happenings in the world which only then have become knowable. Hence God's concrete knowledge is dependent upon the decisions made by the worldly actualities. God's knowledge is always relativized by, in the sense of internally related to, the world.

So basically, One pole is "The physical universe (everything) is god, my body, my brain, the grass, the mountains and even the clothes I wear. A spiritual experience is seeing the intricate divinity within it all!"

While the other pole is "God is the designer, the quiet observer that is outside of the universe and collects ALL information from this universe without any interaction, therefor this abstract being(essence) is outside of time, eternal, infinite, but only RELATIVE to us. A spiritual moment in this context would consist of connecting directly with god, and experiencing its infinite wisdom & potential"

--------------------
"That's the story moving from the NO to the YES. All of life is like, no thankyou, no thankyou, no thankyou. Then ultimatey it's YES i give in, YES I accept, YES I embrace."

markos,  !

amethyst: Or maybe we haven't understood the 'designing' process yet and God has not to be separate from 'physical' universe(s) at all ?
Maybe matter and time are only sub dimensions out of the spiritual realm(s), where 'simultaneousness' and 'everywhereness' is only a lower 'exercise' ?
Who knows what lies beyond.
