hello.

this is a question to which i would like an answer from all bible reading god worshipers, christians and jews. and maybe muslims.

please read no more into it, it is not an attack or anything, it is a simple question.

i have heard some of you say that you dont take the bible as a guideline or ideas for consideration. you take it as GODS IMMUTABLE WORD, yes?

you believe that the things written down in the book known as the bible (colleciton of books) are actually the commandments given to men directly from god.

yes?

so, in that case, do you bring your son to the town square to be stoned when he disrespects his parents?

Do you abstain from all shellfish, pork, and most seafood?

do you refuse to wear shirts made of mixed fibers?

if you find a mole on your skin with one black hair and one white, do you present yourself to your rabbi for examination, and if you fail that examination, do you sequester yourself in synagouge for a week of quarantine?

if your wife is having her period, do you refuse to touch her for one full week?

if your neighbour is a practicing wiccan, do you not suffer her to live? (kill her?)

if your neighbout is a homosexual, do you not suffer him to live? (kill him)

do you give the burnt sacrafice of livestock unto your god?

on the sabbath day, do you not drive, walk more than a hundred paces, not turn on your oven, and not soil your hands with work?

or are you a sinner, who ignores gods divine commandments and flirts with eternal damnation?

these things are all in the bible, clearly set in ancient print.

I say that you have two choices. admit that much of the bible is not written by god but by man, according to ancient and outdated social and cultural traditions and taboos that have no more meaning in the modern world (and therefore how can you know what, if any of the bible is truly gods word)

or you make the choice to blindly believe eveyrthing in the bible , and therefore forever lay to rest your powers of reason, logic, independent thougt, and personal morality, and quite possibly become a convicted murderer in the eyes of the law.

or i guess you could only choose to listen to certain selective parts of the bible, in as far as they are easy or convienient to follow, and therefore make the whole thing a mockery.

...yes.

I think the response you are going to get is that Jesus was the fullfilment of the law and that he brought a new covenant. Therefore the old laws are null and void. Just my guess.

i see. so an omniscient (all knowing) and immortal (ever lasting) god was incapable of making a set of rules that would remain valid forever, and had to so to speak , 'try again' with jesus?

man if i was one of the thousands of jews who went to hell for not following the rules before the new covenant, id feel mighty steamed.

hey i said steamed to refer to anger. thats a first

Steaming in Hell is not possible. I understand that there is no water there...at least icewater. When I was a kid if I asked for something too frequently my grandfather would say "Oh Yeah? Well, people in Hell want icewater." I take my grandfather as an authority on this matter.

Yeah, well like I said I'm not a 'Christian' (Not in the contemporary sense) so, uh you know...

Maybe, taken as a whole, the purpose of the Old Testament laws (even just the ten commandments) is to illustrate that it is impossible for ego (man) to live in accordance with God's will. Jesus as Christ, and our realization that we are in fact ALL sons and daughters of God - Christ consciousness - offers the turning about at the root of consciousness that frees us from the bondage of ego and the continual breaking of God's 'Laws' (i.e. living in opposition to the flow)

i know. but you framed for me the classical fall back argument of the people who this thread WAS adressed to, and therefore i responded to it, for their sakes.

as for your other comments, they are intelligent, well thought out and basically gnostic in there approach .

therefore they are not at all the kind of oppinions that i started this thread to refute and discuss.

in other words, your too smart for this thread.

apparently fuck nuckle and probably others have taken this to be an ad hominem kind of attack on there intelligence and thats probably my fault.

I do not intend to throw dirt on your relationships with god.

I think a relationship with god is very important.

My problem is your choice of god, the biblical god, and specifically the belief that the bible is LITERALLY GOD'S WORD.

Faith?  :thumbup: God? : REAL! Christianity? well it has potential

but believing in the bible as gods literal word is something that simply does not make sense, for the reasons i have outlines above. Or does it? am i missing something?

have you never asked yourself these questions?

or did you find an answer im missing?
