I just grab em from the grocery store. Like 5 bucks for 100 of em( (2 packs).  Careful to not get the ones with the foggy lid, Walmart ones suck.

I prefer more smaller media bottles (250 ml) to fewer bigger ones (500 ml). Easier to pour, also I think heat gets into the center of fluid in smaller ones better.

Also, you can use pint mason jars for agar.

IR temp gun on the side, then when itโ€™s down to temp take off the foil in front of flowhood or SAB?

Just thinking, this could free up 2 media bottles! Already got 20 of the fuckers but you can never have too many if youโ€™re an LC enthusiast!

Finally made a punch that I might actually use...



With spring action stainless steel plug-presser-outer

made from an 8g stainless needle and some cheapo parts-picker-upper thingy

The one clear plug had actual mycelium and it did a good job of leaving it appearing "intact"

I have like 20 punches. Cause i always see some rod like thing whilst in the hardware store and just think to myself "that's the fucking one, the perfect punch !". Happens about every two week and theyre starting to pile up. But that thing looks cool.

Also, what kind of fucking grocery stores sell sterilised petris :lol:. You big city people make me jelly.

I think you're asking someone else, but I'm quoted in that long chain so I'll chime in with my workflow. haha.

No foil.

This is for agar. (I've only done LC once and did the same thing with media bottle):

For agar With media bottles I leave the tops on but not tight.

With wide-mouth pint Mason jars I put on a lid from quart grain jars (same size) with a 3/8 inch hole and a synthetic filter on it. I screw it tight, but hand tight, not rubber mat super tight like with grain jars before PC and after noc. 

I run the PC shooting steam 10 min, put on the stopcock, let it get up to 20 PSI (mine sits at 20 much better than at 15), let it run 22 min. Then carefully slide it to a cold burner, put a tea kettle of water on the hot burner.

I let the PC go down to zero PSI. I keep it closed, carry it with pot holders and open it near hood. Open for a sec, still VERY hot, wearing rubber gloves, hand tighten one bottle. Leave the bottles in the hot water to stay hot, put the lid back on.

I take the one bottle of agar in front of the hood, open there, pour plates. Then put the bottle back in the hot water (so will be easier to clean, agar doesn't harden if it's warm), hand tighten another bottle, shut the PC, and repeat until done.

That was why I was asking about his success rate when pouring... he wasn't talking about sterilized petris. They were just condiment cups... but that would be legit if you could just buy sterilized petris at the local grocery store :lol:

Agh.. I can never seem to make up my mind at this hobby... I want to try every different way of doing things... I just went and bought a crap-ton of no-pour containers, and now I'm back to wanting to start pouring them myself :lol:

Someone posted a pic on Reddit last year of some hardware store that had a huge stack of quart Mason jar flats right next to a rack of vermiculite bags.

Kind of odd if someone there didn't know. Maybe just noticing what people buy and accommodating it.

To me mason jars are are the biggest scam in cult. Everyone eats pickled shit over here so basic jars cost like 40 cents. I can also go to any of my horder neighbours and get like 50 jars for free.

And i am pretty sure those condement cups have to be sterile. Since you put, you know, condements into them. I have also done just fine with punctured bags and stuff. I once used a stack of petris that came with the bag opened and resealed by the seller with ductape :lol:.

It already exists.

A WalMart Super Center with a garden center has everything this hobby requires, except the spores.

They don't have Petri plates, but have things that will work. Including 4 oz glass Ball Mason jars. That's what I used before I bought disposable Petri plates. Better than condiment cups, since you can see through glass what's going on better than plastic. (though still can't see from the top)

Agar at WalMart is in the Asian food aisle.

I had no clue my one question would spark a long chain of discussion! But, thanks for all the replies!  I think I just might just go the condiment cup route.  I've been using Pasty plates, but I need more (can't find them for a decent price). I'm all about not spending too much money, but I really wanted petris to get some good pictures though... :smirk:
