Why do you tape prior to pc?

Keep extra steam out and so I don't accidentally open them trying to take them out. I'd use parafilm but I don't think it survives pressure cooking

You might be better off putting them into a 9ven bag or grow bag if you can get one.

Check out yoshi_amanos petri prep on YouTube, although he doesn't prepour, you could.

You don't put them in a container in the PC?

PP5, no container just tape and wrap in foil. I've used an oven bag before but ended up with the bottom two plates on each stack washed out.

I don't put my no pours in a container, just an extra unneeded step.
I wrap them in tinfoil and pc, my past experiments have shown that a month wrapped in tinfoil was still fine once removed from the pc and stored in the cupboard just wrapped in foil.

I do stacks of 10 - 12 and wrap the entire stack in tin foil from the bottom up to act as a moisture barrier from the water in the pc.
The petris don't sit in the water but I do that on principle from experience just in case the boil overflows a bit and fills up the bottom petri.

Now it all makes sense... every batch of agar I've made has had issues, that's why I switched to pre-mades for a while.. the nutrient levels always seem off... I finally decided to look at the bag and noticed it wasn't actually lme.. :wow:

Make sure you put that in air tight jars with desiccant. I've ended up with malt turning into a solid chunk before... eventually that chunk sucked up more moisture and ended up sludge
