THE Racism of donald
Quote: There are innumerable examples of President Trump showing his racial prejudices against people of colour. Below I will list a handful of examples, including examples from decades ago;
From his tweets of fake anti-muslim videos[1] to his actions in gutting programs meant to stop right-wing terrorism, he will inevitably create more racial tension that will lead to racially motivated violence. In 2009 and 2015 the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the FBI, warned us about the rise of right wing terrorism.[2] Guess what President Trump and this administration did? They cut funding to protect American citizens from domestic terrorism and instead re-purposed the program to focus on Islamic terrorism leaving American citizens in danger of being killed by other forms of domestic terrorism.[3] This action was taken when we know that there is a growing trend of anti-government terrorism.[4]
When you had white nationalist and supremacy sympathizers in this administration such as Gorka[5] and Bannon,[6] while continuing to have the likes of Stephen Miller[7] in the White House it only further emboldens the White Supremacists and racists. Let us not forget that he has pardoned one of the most racist, disgusting law enforcement Sheriff's around - Joe Arpaio.[8]
This is why so many of us are disgusted by the actions of President. Have you seen his unhinged press conference after the Charlottesville tragedy? I have never seen any head of state of a Western ally act in such a belligerent manner, he went so far as to defend Neo-Nazis at the Charlottesville Neo-Nazi rally. You can watch the entire press conference on PBS.[9] How about his Arizona speech where he went on a tirade against the fake media, read out his previous words from the press conference while leaving out the most important and controversial bit - fine people on many sides, on many sides. He is defending Neo-Nazis. This was a Neo-Nazi rally. There were no "fine" people on both sides. They were making Nazi salutes, flying Nazi flags, wearing Nazi clothes, making Nazi chants. Here is a documentary by VICE News of the Neo-Nazi rally that took place, the one President Trump vehemently defended by stating that there were fine people on this side too.[10]
I can't see how his words and actions can be defended. He is acting in a sympathetic manner towards white supremacists and Neo-Nazis. He conflates the idea of Washington and Jefferson owning slaves with a secessionist general who fought to preserve the right to keep slavery legal. There is no equivalence.[11]
So what raised our suspicions as to why we believe Trump is racist? His public insistence that President Obama wasn't born in America is a racist conspiracy.[12] Moreover, how can we excuse the fact that he wanted 5 innocent African American boys to be executed for a heinous crime they did not commit? A settlement was reached recently between the 5 men and the city of New York, yet Trump was still attacking the 5 men.[13] We cannot forget his constant attacks against people of colour on Twitter, from his comments about the slain soldier[14] to his never-ending attacks against black athletes.[15] All his actions lead to one conclusion, that President Trump is racist.
There is another unfortunate benefit for a foreign adversary - this administration's racism further pushes and benefits the Kremlin's foreign policy[16] - to destabilize the west by sowing division among the population.[17] We know Russian operatives used social media to exploit racial and religious divisions during the 2016 election.[18]
Russia is actively trying to divide the West/America and has been for quite some time, be aware that they use inflammatory language online and promote disinformation.[19] I know it cant be frustrating when talking to those who share a different set of beliefs, but we should attempt to find common ground with those who truly believe in the pillars that make Western democracy so great - equity, representation, freedom, and justice. Yes there are institutional problems that need to be addressed and ultimately fixed. Yes there are different views on how we can come to a solution on these institutional problems. But as it stands right now Western democracy is under attack and we must work together by staying informed and exercising our constitutional duty by voting in elections in our respective countries.
