Thanks man. I’m learning to trust my senses the cube smell really gives them away.

The weirdest thing happened to me.  I took a couple big whiffs of them and for the rest of the day at work I burped and tasted cubes wtf. Like just breathing in the fumes gave me gas.. like I said strange

Made tea with 3g and I hear dubstep in my brain

Love ur pics. It’s amazing all the different shapes and varieties they come in. It’s intimidating in a way to us noobs but also awe inspiring.

Some of you guys need to start an exchange student program so I can come live with you 😀😂. Honestly starting to think my local creek was too flooded this year to produce. Although...would this stunt other species as well as ovoids? 'Cuz I'm definitely finding fungus...just not the kind I'm after.

I’m assuming you picked them and they bruised? You know.. for science and all. They do look interesting, nice and smooth. The other pics are cool too how they’re growing out of mud. Got me thinking I should check out the river bank

Everything I have found has been with within 20'of a rver or creek. I'm searching between the Tuscarawas and the erie canal which is all flood plains that never dry. And yes they bruised and are very active.

Most of the ones I’ve been finding are 300-500 yards from the creek.  It’s a big creek though and a big flat wooded area that fills with backwater when it floods.  Anywhere that the floodwater reaches can have a patch of ovoids

Your 5th pic from the left are not ovoids...the rest look ok. Phenotypes are subtle differences in their genetic make up. There are basically 2 phenotypes growing in our areas. The common flat or wavy cap variety and the Nipple head type found along the Susquehanna watershed.

That's pretty cool! I've never found them growing off of birch like that.
I think now is when the debris pile season begins. In 2 weeks the season will be pretty much over but you can find some nice flushes in those stick piles.

I find the nipple kind here along the Susquehanna. Look like tits to me. Look down and see boobies. Almost heaven.

I found a location that was a man made lake 20 years ago. Packed full of stinging nettle and grasses. I haven't found a ton of spots but this place rocks. Just an idea of places to look.

Slugs are a sign. I'd say 50% of the time I find a collection of slugs there are ovoids near by.

Gotta really dig into the grass now I've noticed. Go slow and move every blade of grass.

Moist but not swampy with fair drainage.

I've found that Google maps works alright to scout. I look for wooded areas near a creek with green patches within them and some degree of clearing.

I had more that I wanted to list about common things that point toward good habitat etc... Anything anyone has to offer and add would be awesome.

Did alright yesterday. Still some good stuff out there, but still most of the stuff I found was rotten.

I don’t touch them. I’ve  come to the conclusion that human intervention in spreading ovoids in their natural habitat is completely useless. They take care of it themselves

Found some today for the first time ever.

I know they have been found in Central Ohio but damn, they gotta be really rare. Today I drove 100 miles east and a little south to Wayne National Forest near the Ohio River. I stepped out of my car on the first stop and I found one almost right away.  Then found more all of which I was a probably would have been better off picked a day or two ago.

So happy after two years of looking to finally find some.  I wish it happened around my home town, but the drive was worth it.  Thank you Shroomery people.  Wouldnt have happened with out you.  <3

I just got home and they all bruised like crazy.  Most of the caps are blackish now. Also got some colonized wood bits and stem butts that have alive looking mycellium on the stem butts I am going to get going in mulch projects back here in Central Ohio.

I am about to go grab some mulch, is there a kind of mulch that is best?  I got black dyed mulch around now that is year or two old.

Nice finds everyone. Had an hour of free time so I hit this spot I'd been eyeballing for a while. Not many Box Elders but the ones that were there were giving up some fruits. Smaller than the last spot but fresh and nice examples. Dumping purple red spores on the ground veg. Saw three or four large chunks of decaying wood that are absolutely covered in mycelium ( check pics ). Hopefully they haven't fruited I think this spot at the right time could be amazing.

Apple Wood Chips for BBQ/Smoking (credit to whoever posted about that). Boil for 30 mins rinse and cool. They love them. They seem to like all sorts of exotic wood aswell. Cant be sure about garden center chips. Nice find GL
