One and a half cups of dry whole oats per quart jar.

Place whole oats in pot

Fill with water 3-4 inches above level of oats.

Place pot filled with water and whole oats onto stove.

Turn heat onto high.

Once whole oats reach a full boil, set a timer for 20 minutes.

When time is up, place whole oats into strainer of choice.

Allow whole oats to cool until they are either room temperature, or steam has finished escaping from grain.

400 grams of whole oats dry.

680 grams hydrated whole oats at loading time = 70% moisture content.

Whole oats before boil.

Whole oats after boil.

Load whole oats into jars approximately 5/8ths-3/4ths full.

Cap jars.

Place foil square onto lids.

Fill PC with water.

Load jars into PC.

PC for 90-120 minutes @ 15-20 psi.

Fruits.

No.

Grains weighed 400 grams dry. Once force hydrated they weighed 680 grams at time of loading into jars gaining 280 grams of water weight. 70% of 400 = 280.

I get 400 grams of oats turning to 680 as 50% not 70%
They have a starting moisture content of 13.6-17% So thats 332-345.6g oats with 0% moisture content
If they weigh 680 after hydration thats 48.8-50.8% moisture content depending on the original moisture content being between 14-17%

Ah, I see what you're saying, and thanks for your feedback, however, that's moot, because if grains begin with 17% moisture target goal of 70% moisture content is still accomplished even by assuming grains begin with 0% hydration. Secondly, 77% moisture content of oats is not what is originally claimed. 70% is.

The thing is you don't assume they start at 0% because then telling people 70% is based on your own method not "the method" Moisture content is what it is. You have to account for the starting MC.

17% moisture content and I worked together to accomplish target grain hydration level of 70%. All I did was add extra 57% hydration content to get there.

Assuming 0 its still only 58.8 400(dry oats at your 0%)/680(dry oats + water added) = Not 70

Thanks for adding that bod. I get wet grains most of the time since i live in a very humid place. Starting content really depends on your area and source. Really need to test it by drying/desicant. Even freshly harvested grains can be used using this formula:

Having confusion wether 50% or 70% is optimal? But Anyway I have dug on to this. Seems hamloaf is right the staring moisture content do add up to the final according to this formula.
 Pdf Link: https://www.google.com.ph/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.doa.go.th/aeri/files/pht2010/documents_slide/training%2520materials/2_crop_drying_(basic_principle).pdf&ved=2ahUKEwicu7vj6LXZAhUBVLwKHTxfDM4QFjABegQICRAB&usg=AOvVaw0TguBT3luSxrDqZmrclQIP
Sorry its for tons but for grams it goes like this. Say i want to prepare 400(g) of grain with 17% starting moisture content with 70% ending moisture content. 1 ton = 907,185 grams 1 ml h2o = 1 gram
Formula: 400×(((70−17)÷(100−17))×1,000)÷907 400×((53÷83)×1,000)÷907 400×(0.6385×1,000)÷907 400×(638.5)÷907 400x0.7039 ======== 70.39% 281.56 water in ml/grams needed 400(g)+281.56(ml) = 681(g) final hydrated grain weight.
Sorry for the long ragged formula. Posting it here for reference since i wanna go for 65% moisture content & for those who also wanna polish grain prep by weight, math, and testing their grains starting moisture content.
