IMO, ovoids smell just like cubes...Agrocybes like, well, not cubes...

You can tell the agrocybes apart by smell and the stems are solid. Ovoid stems will almost always have a hollow center. If you look at my pic post, I actually took a picture of the hollow part. I have found them with solid stems, but they were growing directly on a stump and the stems were almost as hard as wood.

Ovoids smell acrid, almost piney. The smell makes my teeth hurt. idk

My agrocybes had hollow stems as well

I know what you mean with the ovoid piney acrid smell, hopefully once I get some more I'll get better with identifying that scent

FWIW, the Agrocybes I find have hollow stems also. Not sure if I've ever seen a solid stem Agrocybe.

10 steps away I was excited. The closer I got I watched my Hope's fizzle out. Effin huge wine caps out on the wood chip piel though.

However the ovoids only showed mycelium.

I’ve been hunting NJ for several years now and my advice - keep doing what you’re doin! I’ve been walking many rivers and streams and have only found on chips - nothing this year - I’m curious to know the river if you want to PM and I won’t compete - I’m just dying to see some in situ.

Late getting to post these but it was another stellar day here. Alchemycologist didn't make it back out to our one patch yesterday so I got out there this morning. I missed a ton Friday and the rain had made some monsters, nothing on you Koods but I'm used to mostly small guys with a hand full or big ones mixed in. Some of these were easily the biggest I've ever found. Also stopped by a park I haven't been to in close to a decade on a hunch and was happy it was right. Was about to text Alchemycologist a habitat pic saying we should spend some time exploring when I found the cluster in last in situ pic and a handful of others. Didn't get to look around much but I'll definitely be back this week.

To me, ovoids smell a bit like dog piss....other than smell like cubes, it's the best way I can describe it.

St. Myco, Just plant stembutts and or a lil colonized material an inch or two deep in damp mulch.  Water occasionally during dry spells, You will be impressed.  I have three beds currently fruiting now with very little effort.  I’m very impressed with how aggressive the ovoid mycelium is.  No pasteurization needed in my experience.  Happy hunting and good luck.

Hey Shroomery family! Would everybody send me out some good vibes today? This will be my third hunt this season, first year hunting ovoids. No luck so far. Last year was my first year hunting ever, but I missed ovoid season and instead was hunting P. Caerulipes and Gymnopilus Sp. (also no luck lol). Thanks to y'alls insight I've stopped aimlessly tromping up and down the creek and started hunting habitat. Wish me luck, fellas! Maybe today will be the day lady psilocybin reveals herself to me :smile:
