Searching a new creek not far from home and I find these little rascals. They're only about an inch tall which leads me to believe the ovoids are a week off in central nj.

I don't think they are as well.  If you look closely, the cap appears to be separate from the stem.  If they were ovoids you'd see a partial veil starting to tear open.

Totally not ovoids. Agreed.

But that is a box elder pictured and I observed many 100's of ovoids a couple days ago in habitat like is shown.

Look for the mature box elders in that habitat, iAmuseMe, and maybe ovoids will find you.

Eta: seeing a lot of poplar and oak in the habitat pics...don't waste your time hunting them.  Find the box elders, preferably a grove or at least a triangle of them, and good things will eventually happen

Congrats to those finding their first ovoids!! :congrats:

Took a trip up to SEPA and was able to observe lots of fruits today.  Most were tiny, but there was a couple of decent ones here and there.  A lot of long stemmed specimens hiding in the celandine and the logs had a good bit as well.  The day was filled with a lot of hiking, but well worth the energy and time.

Here's a bit of what we came across today.

Didn't say they were.  There are more actives than ovoids.

Also not saying they are active.  Just curious and should maybe looked into more.

Also, here is a photo of the spot I found with relic. Absolutely beautiful and incredibly fruitful.

Dude.  That place, that adventure, so fuckin magical.

Thx again for the privilege of helping to map those spots.  The data pattern from the second two was wicked cool and deserves more scrutiny.

A great time was had by all and observing over 1,000 fruits in one day from only natural patches, zero mulch fruits, is something I won't soon top.

Good call. Thanks.

I'll check the spot next time I go by out of curiosity, but good to know it isn't high priority.

In case anyone is curious here is one more shot of those not-ovoid-maybe-mycena blueish pins that I found and the stem is super blue on this one, too.

relic:hatsoff: all of you hunters,:hatsoff:

If your not having luck, hang in there. Gotta put in the work and like mentioned above,  Most success comes with the realization "Hunt for the habitats and conditions your target favours and not for the target" If habitat is right and its the right time of year and conditions are right, the mushrooms will show up" once you start finding anything, really take your time and asses the small details ande soon you will start forming bigger pictures and in no time be finding like a boss.
(No time means awhile, all about how much time you want to i invest*Puttin in work) Talking about out hunting couple hours over weekend is NOT puttin in the work.

You all rock, thanks for sharing.,
