Finally found my first pins ever. Going to be my first experience also. Thanks for helping guys.

Actually found about 15 all together all that same size. I'll be back out hunting more. Appreciate all the help guys.

Central Pennsylvania is popping! Those Susquehanna ovoids.

You did it bro, congratulations. Now that you have them in your hand isn’t it obvious? I remember the first time I found actives, it’s like a light goes off in your head of what you’re looking for

It is obvious once you put hands on. Spent the last week and a half walking everyday. Worth every second and I'm just getting started.

That means central Ohio should be popping soon if not right now. Beautiful finds as well :wowz:

This explains the slow start. April was the driest month in more than a year.

Yup, warm and dry after a record precip year

A couple of my patches fruited after I watered them three evenings in a row.  The myc is primed for flushing; it just needs moisture.

Those are some awesome finds...I hope you are re depositing all those stem butts you are pulling up. Most times I pinch them off above the soil line and they will reward me with a second flush.:mushroom2:

@ Relic and Wubb, that is some prime looking habitat you got there. My first year finding them I had it like that....they were everywhere ...unfortunately, celandine and floods completely changed the plain and the areas are nothing like they once were.
I remember walking out of there with 2 grocery bags full of them every time I went in.:mushroom2:

Also, some nice finds by everyone on the board...I think the season is beginning to kick in now.:awesomenod:

I have been out every day the last two week scoping out spots inside the 270 loop and havent seen one yet.  I think I have found good natural habitats tho along alum creek and one at big walnut.  I focused on the olentangy last year I think that might have been a mistake, but I did find a new spot on the olentangy i couldnt get to last year that has a creek that floods which feeds into the olentangy that looks promising. The massive celandine cover along the olentangy seems to coat good places.

I am about to head out today to look for a few hours.  Good luck everyone!  Hopefully I will be posting pics soon.  I really want to find them for some spores and/or live mycellium to get mulch beds going around the house.

Spent four hours at walking alum creek today in central Ohio.  No ovoids yet that I could find, but at least found morels which made me feel better about the day.  Lots of what I think are deadly gallerina on logs, some coprinoid type, tornado mushrooms (i dunno what they are, twisty mushroom shape with pores instead of gills).  Also some bright yellow jelly looking fungus I thought was neat.

I am going to keep at it every day rotating promising spots.

I also tripped over a log flipping it over.  Some nice rhizo mycellium growing... heres to hoping it is ovoid.... smellled like cubensis mycelium, not that it probably means much tho.

No luck today. I think I need to start expanding my search radius and start looking at some bigger rivers instead of streams. I've seen some agrocybe and mycena.

Here's a curious question: has anyone come across a lot of those big brown Peziza (or so I am assuming) cup fungi while hunting for ovoids? They seem to be showing up in the areas I've identified as promising ovoid spots.

Still pretty meager pickings. The celandine is dying off and mold was an issue.

My reliable spot has popped off (W. PA).

Either get out right now or 2-days after the next big rains.

Cheers everyone

I found some interesting stuff today, basically a lifetime supply of Dryad's Saddle, but probably not any ovoids.  I would love some feedback on this habitat because it seems about right to me, but nothing so far.  This is definitely a flood plain of a medium size creek.  The shore is high, but with lower sandy spots occasionally and lots of washed up wood.

Potential pins? (these were tiny, almost too small to see)

Any feedback on this habitat?

Maybe some of the boxelder I'm always reading about?  At first I thought it was poison ivy until I checked that it was actually from a tree branch.

This looks similar, but maybe a little too orange and no bruising.  Something didn't seem right.

Searching a new creek not far from home and I find these little rascals. They're only about an inch tall which leads me to believe the ovoids are a week off in central nj.
