I've already found more morels this year than I did over the combined three years since we moved here.

Has anyone in Western Kentucky had any luck? I thought I found some today at Stuart Nelson, but they turned out to be some Agrocybe species :frown:

Just got word that our project is a success!!  I don't have any pics, since I had stuff to do at apt, but my partner went up and checked things out this afternoon.  He said that every pile had at least 1 small fruit and that the older pile, which was 2 piles we joined with broken branches last yr, had around 20 fruits.  Apparently all the fruits must have emerged from the previous systems, as they were all dried up.  This is excellent news since it's still early season.  This also confirms that the phenotype, same as yesterday, fruits earlier than the other one.  So stoked to see what else comes up from there and also to expand what we have at the end of the season.  :bigblunt:

Also wanted to share this pic of the varying sizes that occur early in the season.  As it gets hotter out the average size will increase and they can get fairly large.  All of these ovoids have opened  their caps, none are pins.




Yea I was a little disappointed with their size haha, I thought they were bigger and that's why I've probably looked past a lot of them this beginning of the season.

No ovoids yet in Central Ohio that I have found.  Seeings orange mushrooms that I think are galerina marginata have been fruiting from logs the last two week.  Saw some impressive flushes of what I think are coprinoid I am seeing in dirt around trees near the river.  Also found some weird white grainy looking fungus and some oysters.  Oh and Dryads.... damn they are all over the place.  I heard someone call it Miss Congeniality of the woods.... hah.  I did take a picture of the biggest one I think Ive seen. No argocybes yet.  I found a lot of those last year.

I have been noting that one river I checked extensively last year has that damn celandine cover thick everywhere along the river around the riparian zone.  Another river/creek only 10-15 miles from the other river has pretty much zero celandine.

Thank you to everyone posting pictures as that helps me get an idea about things to check.  I feel like my chances for success are a lot better this year than last. 

It just started raining and looks like it is going to rain off and on the next couple days.  Next week after it warms back up im hoping things will start get going here.

Good to see everyone starting to find them. I only found a few at my creek spot but at least they're starting....P.S.....I guess I'll confirm my annual celandine rant....I hate the stuff!

Went back to the early spot we hike thru and had a wonderful day.  Ended up coming across some new logs and found a bunch hiding throughout a nettle area.  Needless to say my hands are definitely feeling it after today's outing.  A lot of stuff is drying up and if it weren't for the vegetation would be really dry.  Looking forward to the next system and the clusters that will follow.  Saw lots of pins as well, so as soon as the sky falls they will pop up.  I hope to see everyone's patches exploding with clusters in the coming weeks.  Good luck out there everyone!!

I'm next to the Ohio river and can confirm they are here. Up here they come out late April. I went today and didn't find anything. I'm going to look at another stream tomorrow.
