Any hunters out in the eastern panhandle of WV? This is my second year hunting, with no luck last year. Would love to have a hunting partner! I have lots of prime territory where I live.

Thanks guys :mushroom2:  We hiked around for 6 hrs today, starting first thing in the morn.  (Had to try n beat the heat).  Hoping the other areas I hike around start up next week.  Maybe find a couple here n there when I check in a couple days.  We kinda lucked out in that we weren't expecting to see as many as we did.  It also helps that they were drying out and turning white.  That phenotype gets ghostly white when it dries out, sometimes with a dark center on the cap, making them look like eyeballs.

TexturedSounds, awesome find! :congrats: I love the morphology of those, they seem to be much more umbonate than everyone else's, almost like Liberty Caps. I think I'll nominate one of those for pic of the month. :smile:

That phenotype has a very specific geography and there doesn’t seem to be any intermediate types.

Hey Yumeryu I live in Selinsgrove as well and find an abundance here and along penns creek and I live near the college, but our Pa ovoids tend to have some crazy looking morphs, along Penn's and the isle Q they love it in the grassy areas along there.. good luck and if you see someone with a basket it's probably me.. haven't ran into anyone in years when picking ovoids

Been grabbing some medium sized clusters almost every day out here in central VA. Keeping close eye on al my patches. They are slowly but surely waking up. Doing a proper adventure with relic this weekend. I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a P.O foray in a while. Keep the posts coming everyone. Imagine what this thread is going to be posting in 3 weeks!!!

Duuude! Thanks for the tips. I was thinking about the isle just haven't gotten there yet especially with the river so high. I would love to meet up if your willing. It would be nice to have someone who knows what they are looking for. I'll keep an eye out for you. I like to wear my desert camo hat when I go out so I'll look for a basket and you watch for the hat. I'm going out again today. Hopefully the water has gone down so I can hunt the river.

Damn I wish I still lived down there. I miss kayaking down penns creek. Haven't done it in years. I didn't hunt back then. Might have to make a trip and make a few stops along the banks while I'm at it for some mushies.

Gills can be white-ish/creamy when extremely young, quickly becoming rusty-brown to sometimes brownish-purple.  Stipe is often ornamented with chevron-like pattern near the base, has irregular creamy to brown to blue blotches, and is not snowy white from bottom to top with no irregularities like your pics. 

See any one of several descriptions on the net and the many fine pics in previous years' threads here at the shroomery for examples.

Walked the length of selinsgrove on the island on the Penn's creek side. Found a few coprinoids and other unknown shrooms. Dishearted that I didn't find a single ovoid. Thought today was the day.

The day will come soon man! It just seems they need some more time to grow! I'm happy for you that you at least got to walk that beautiful place on such great day. I took for granted living there. Up here in the coal regions around the borders of luzerne, schuylkill, and carbon counties, the flora is nowhere near as lush and vivid. This is my first springtime living out of the selinsgrove area. When I came down from Hazleton to seem my parents for Easter I forget how gorgeous it gets during spring. I walked along the golf course to the country club and overlooked Hummels Wharf and the whole valley. Now there's a good view for you once you've ingested a mircodose,  or a whole dose hahah but I couldn't do that, too many golfers around. I was hoping to find some ovoids along the creek there but found no mushrooms at all, of any sort.

Cipronoids are everywhere. If I found as many ovoids as I have those I'd be able to stop hunting for a few months.

Those are a Pluteus sp.
If you don't know what you found make an ID request. This is not supposed to be a thread for IDs.

Still a little too early here in Philly. Finding morels and lots of agrocybe but no ovoids yet.
We need one more good rain storm to get it started.
