Well I can't remember my login info for Dickenz07, but I'm back. Ovoid season is finally here!
Ohio river valley, WV. Look forward to seeing everyone's finds, hopefully my higher ground spots didnt get flooded too bad..if not, there should be lots of pics coming soon!
Happy Hunting fellas! :dancer:  :jah:

Still nothing my way. Just a couple of indicators that I have noted in the past. I typically start finding them en mass when  the dogwood starts blooming and/ or the black locust trees start flowering... provided there is adequate moisture.

Should be a week, max. Cool to see all the Va. finds! Curious....are the dogwood trees in bloom down there?

Might go look at some spots along the Delaware water gap today expecting nothing but hopefully some good habitats, oh and found my first oyster of the season yesterday.

Dogwoods been blooming for a week or so.  Forsythia bushes have dropped their blooms and are leafed out.  Dryads are deep into their fruiting with more being old and tough than there are new fruits starting.  Sounds like we're about two weeks ahead of the Baltimore area.

Heck, 8 out of 10 of my ovoid spots aren't even fruiting yet so its still way early down here, too.

Still hunting/waiting to find a big flush. I could swear I smelled them in a spot where I couldn’t locate any. These guys are rascally tricksters.

All your finds have been in natural settings, right?  No mulch bed finds so far?

You just might have to help them make the jump to a large mulched area.  If that's a park you're hunting, do they have any mulched playgrounds there?

Some habitat shots for your judging pleasure.  I’m not seeing many pockets of debris, so I’m guessing this area would be less than optimal?

On my phone so hard to see very well, but looks ok.  Yeah, maybe less than optimal but not terrible by any stretch of the imagination.  And keep in mind that ovoids don't just grow in debris piles and not only at/near the water's edge...the place I found a large fruiting this past weekend was from 75-150 yards from the banks of the river.

Have you ID'd any box elder trees there yet?

It'd be dope if someone were to put together a guide for hunting ovoids. When i first started looking i just read through all the previous ovoid threads.

Relic thanks again, I spent a long time Sunday walking around just trying to find box elders.

I got lucky enough today to hit a place at lunch close to work with some mild success

This will be a stellar year! I'm so excited

This nobler to go out and hunt rather than stay in

Yep, all natural areas so far. I have been transplanting stem butts and colonized wood to mulch beds all over the city...

This will be my first time mushroom hunting. I'm in the DC area, so I don't think they have fruited just yet. I'm guessing within 2 weeks since people on this thread have found them in other parts of VA. I thought I would share some habitat photos to see if I am on the right track with it. The photos were taken on the DC/MD side of the Potomac.
