They're growing so fast and so close to each other that they are pressing themselves! I don't know why they do grow like that because despite I cut off the plastic tubs they continue to do so.
Some even grow down not up towards the rain water.
It's crazy how they look.
It's raining hard this past days and this week supposed to be raining.
Do I have to wait before I cut some because I don't know how much big they grow?

If you got rid of the plastic all together that would be best.

There was a lump of mulch inside a burlap bag and the whole thing was fruiting underneath. I had to cut open the burlap to free them

Last fall I had the same plastic tubs with Psilocybe Allenii...when I did remove some of the plastic tubs most of the pins dried out and died around 15-20 little mushrooms got lost,no matter how much I mist and water them... But the tubs that had been only cut up did produced nice mushrooms and didn't die...

Burlap solves that problem. It holds the mulch in place. Keeps the moisture up and the mushrooms can push it out of the way or even fruit through it.

just watch for rot while letting them do their thing.  the fruit can get much larger under the right conditions, but hard to say what they'll do under your conditions.

I've watched them take two weeks from pins to mature fruits so just look out for rot...if you see that, harvest any that show it and let others continue to grow.

cool grow you have going there. good luck.

Hi Relic :hi:

Ovoids clump like that everywhere I've seen them grow.  It's kinda their thing under good conditions.

Ovoids are a lot of fun, if you make a big patch outside in some chips they'll go bonkers.

And like Relic said, they can get large and meaty.

I'm American, so that's in inches.

Is there an equipment rental place nearby where you could rent a woodchipper?

In one day's work you could have enough chips for quite a haul of mushrooms.

Why not just put a couple planters with flowers out back and cover that with like 3 inches of mulch.  Then you can add colonized material to that. Take the colonized brick indoors duriing the winter if you're in a harsh country.

Nothing for me yet. Today was perfect, it rained the last 2 days, it's been between 50F and 70F for a couple weeks but I came home empty handed. I think we need more rain, as it's been pretty dry for a while.

While we wait for the ovoids to start poppin', could any of the more seasoned hunters contrast this year and last year in terms of potential/early start? Last year seemed to get a pretty late start...I recall koods first find being around 4/27. It looks like the signs are pointing to an earlier season this year, and the temps have been great and moisture looks like it's going to be alright.

Thoughts?

I rarely start searching the Mid Atlantic area until the last week of April. Someone may find some before then, but I haven't really found any kind of numbers until then. A unusually warm and wet Spring may change that date but we have not really had that this year aside from early Spring heavy rains.:mushroom2:
