(I know your asking Mark, but I have never tried a fly agaric mushroom though I picked one once and was gonna try.

I kinda think that as Allegro shows, once myth gets put down in writing, this is when they can hide stuff, only for the inititated to know about, in the script, and use allusions.
I am sure that the amanita was used, but could also have been an arch-mushroom, meaning that its dramatic shape etc was used to formulate stories, and also to further hide the more popular and more powerful psilocybin mushrooms they may have known about, and had access to

I say this because Mike Crowley also reveals that knowledge and use of specifically psilocybin dung mushrooms were used in Hinduism and Buddhism, and seeing that Eastern philosophical ideas are believed to have been an influence on mystery European schools like Orphism which in turn influenced Christianity that these secrets of the initiates would get found out by other initiates by travelers with bags of magic goodies

But like I said above. You have to cut through the crap. Conscious-expanding substances of COURSE are central in the old stories myths. Do not people still look with awe at psychedelics now? Are they not forbidden? Why? What is the fruit which is forbidden in the biblical creation myth? Can you guess?
What are the experiences we can have from ingesting psychedelics. Can you dig the imagery that is being denigrated in that patriarchal version? The Tree of Life. The Serpent. Being gods. Paradise. What does a garden look to you on psychedelics? ANY natural landscape? How do you FEEL? Ecstatic? Like a god? Do you feel the dynamic interrelation of time and eternity?
This is real myth. Myth with words written down is a relatviely recent invention. Authentic mythological ritual was direct and experiential and ecstatic. Think of the Australian Aborigines and their Dreamtime ritual. Entering an eternal dimension which is beyond 'time' but not versus time. It is dynamic. So claim the eternal is 'always here' is to put a time on it. It is a dimension

The consciousness-expanding mushrooms were given god names. They were personified in stories/myths. Often these characters were semi-divine. IE Jesus was human and yet 'Son of God'. OK, dig---they didn't have microsopes them days. They believed these shrooms magically/divinely appeared after thunderstorms YET they had 'flesh', and could die like us. But in dying IN us they came back alive, and HOW...

Jesus forgives sins, which only God can do.  The scribes immediately thought that this was blasphemy, since to them Jesus is in effect declaring He is God by this statement.

Matthew 9
And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city. And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?  But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.  And he arose, and departed to his house.  But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.

His name is Yeshua.  He is also called Lord Jehovah.  Also known as the 777.  He is also called The Most High Bar None.

You can't make this stuff up:  The Jewish Priests literally handed Lord Jehovah over to some Romans to have him nailed to a tree.

We need a script that changes the word Jesus to Matt Damon.

As far as I am concerned, Jesus was simply a human being who had a deeper understanding of what it means to live. If you delve deeply enough into his teachings you will come to realize that his true message, in summary, is that everything is okay, we're all part of something greater than ourselves, we are all connected and that the world will only become "Heaven" when we recognize this collectively.

Jesus came at a time when the Roman Empire essentially ran the Eastern world, and his ideas (which were not particularly original, mind you) revolutionized the public's perception of reality. This turned him into a dangerous, radical type of "celebrity", and after the Empire crucified him to protect their power his teachings took off. Obviously they are now the foundation for one of the most dominant belief systems in the world through Christianity.

I do not believe Jesus intended to be viewed as God, but rather I think he wanted us to realize that we are all "God" as equally as he is. However, his message was perverted over the course of history for various reasons and his follwers have been deluded away from the truth.

If I may add to your wonderful statement,

Jesus ( and this is mainly out of speculation, not Bible studying or research, but mind you, i've lived in a society immersed in discussion of Jesus Christ for 20+ years ) was fully human, and as you said, carried a message of love and unity; the secret power of cosmic consciousness available to all. That message in and of itself was powerful enough to draw the negative attention of the Roman Empire, but I think there's more to it.

As Markos was sharing, the aspect of Christ is kind of like the Universal Logic, or Logos. This Logic, spanning throughout all of physical time and space, dream space, mental and astral space, is the fundamental pattern for sentience. Jesus, as one who came into the world like a thought, birthed from a virgin, was inexorably aware of this cosmic consciousness.

In his special and profound awareness, He was capable of doing work on the Astral and Dream spaces simultaneously as He could work in the physical realm... therefore, it was no mystery to Jesus that He was facing imminent death. He was a human like everyone else, but the immensity and power of His perception allowed him to weave the events of the world to do great good just out of his own mind... that's one way of describing how the crucifixion was a moment that Jesus, in complete communion with his Christ-Self, payed for an immense, planetary, karmic debt, that allowed other human beings to come into closer contact with Christ Consciousness.

It's tragically brilliant and makes me wonder about the hierarchy of beings... although, I think the message of it's all good and love is the answer should be my primary focus.

That's just amazed me because that's the exact same question I was going to follow up with to ask you.

I'm not asking of evidence from anyone (whereas you are) so that question is yours to answer.

If I had solid, indisputable evidence that Jesus of Nazareth walked on this Earth, I wouldn't be posting about it on the shroomery, I would be taking it up to the greatest historical institutions in the world and getting my name written down in the history books as well.

That being said, I think there was a Jesus of Nazareth precisely because of the huge splash that his name and image has made across time. 2000 years later, He's still one of the focal points of conversation for a lot of us and many people revolve their entire lives around Him. I do not think that the Bible is weaving really intricate metaphors about mushrooms, I think that it's pretty much a straight forward kind of book, at least the new testament.

So, basically, my answer is that the Gospels and the founding of the Christian Church seem like valid and authentic cruxes in history that would have only come about due to the life and work of a Prophet, or Awakened Being.

I recommend you read The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross by J.M. Allegro and it surely must radically change your mind about that thinking!

The translation that Mary was a virgin is actually a mistranslation of Isaiah 9:6 is a mistranslation! Matthew (the name attributed to the genealogical gospel. No one knows who actually wrote it, as it was untitled), had been using the Septuigint, the Greek translation of the Tenach, not the Hebrew original. Greek had only one word for 'young woman,' which in the Hebrew original in almah. In Hebrew, the word for virgin is bethula. Greek had the word parthenos alone, which meant both. There is no virgin birth of a demigod in Hebrew myth. That is Greek mythology, and typical of other cultures who wish to express the divinity of certain figures. Similar myths have been atibuted to the Buddha, just as lotus blossoms (a water lily) that supposedly sprang from the earth at his first baby steps. Myth, not history.

Why would the translators of the Septuigint translate parthenos as virgin instead of young girl, if they had a fluent understanding of the Greek language?
