Alright, I am new to this board so I want to get to know you all a little. What religion are you? If you dont practice a particular religion right now, then what religion would you say believes as you do?
Im not a particular religion, but right now Im a Panentheist thinker. I believe that God is a part of us and we're a part of God. Now how about you?

I guess im an 'agnostic.' I'm in to Taoism, Zen Buddhism, eastern philosophy, and philosophy in general. The human mind can't even fathom the concept of god, so I dont really subscribe to any dogmatic beliefs. I don't really even like using the term 'God' because there is so many dogmatic connoations to it. I'll go with McKenna and say 'The Other.'

I'd say I follow the human religion so my god would be my DNA Not because I think I'm "God", but because (as far as I know)DNA is the only thing that makes me *me*... so it fundamentally dictates what my evolving conscious "self" makes of our consensus reality, and thus is the basis for creation of my reality, henceforth(!) making it the figurhead of my religion (that doesn't exist). *Deep breath* I've never tried to classify myself as any religion before now, so just ignore me if the above makes no sense at all to you...I'm just indulging myself on account of this thread. Wait a minute... I've never come across a religion that made sense to me anyway, so maybe I'm on to something here... Audio tapes start at 10$ (shipping and handling charges excluded), Clones are coming soon.

I don't believe God is a being. I don't believe there is a god, but I find myself wondering... how can I be so sure? Sometimes I question whether or not there are forces which we cannot percieve. Sometimes I wonder if there is an afterlife.
I hate organized religion with a passion (but I do not hate religious people).
I don't know what my religious beliefs are, and I don't know if I ever will.

Im getting ready to convert to Zen Buddhism, although I consider it more of a philosophy for life, than a religion. I read a lot of eastern philosophy, especially Taoist, Buddhist, and Sufi writings. Douglas Adams books also go on my list of great spiritual writings of this century (or any for that matter).

I'm not familiar with the Satanic Bible or any "Satanist" religious ideals (well I might be, but I certainly don't know them as such). I do remember Mark Borchardt in American Movie ranting about how Satanism is "the persuit of humanistic endevours", but I really have no idea what that means to him.
Maybe "human religion" was the wrong choice of words for the thought I was trying to convey, seems like Anton Levy already claimed that phrase...

DNA's pre-Crick symbol was the intertwined serpents seen in mythologies all around the world, related also to the knowledge of the divine serpent and kundalini energy, in my opinion. I mean think about it... Easterners have been worshipping the "serpent energy" as divine energy for thousands of years before the shape and nature of DNA was discovered. Hell, even the caduceus contained the symbol for DNA...
Unfortunately science can't prove or disprove this theory, so I guess it's just conjecture. Damn that conjecture.

I have my own beliefs that do not fall into any ONE belief system. I take bits and pieces from all of them, but I really just follow my own path.
I believe that we are all god- and any larger form of god is just a mass of integrated souls. When I had lost my ego on shrooms, I joined a large mass of other souls and felt unconditional love. This tought me what I am and that I should love myself just as I should love everyone (because we are all one, in a sense).
The most I can learn about spirituality is just by introspection. Mushrooms and medatation help.
I was raised christian, and about the age of 14 I concluded that god did not take on a human form, but was energy. Now I know this to be true. It's true for me only because I felt it so strongly that I could not deny it. Sorry I cannot proove this to anyone else, the only thing I can do is recomend a healthy dose of mushrooms.

Who needs religion? The universe/life/nature needs no religion to classify, delimit and limit it. Dogma sticks to the bottom of your souls and stinks up an otherwise beautiful experience of living.
-------------------- To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.' Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence. Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains. Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

actually, I think I spelled it right. A Pantheist believes that God is the sum total of all the energies in the universe. I believe that God is within, and beyond the universe, Or you can say that I believe that God is the Creator and Creation simultaneously. A good example of Panentheistic belief is the Hindu concept of Brahman.

Bascially you take a cup of buddhism, half a pint of taoism, mix in a little neo-paganism, and a sprinkle of various new age beliefs.. and you add psilocybin mushrooms.

I am Christian more or less. I beleive in the God figure, the creator and ultimate passive force, I beleive in Jesus the Christ and his mission to bring the true word of God down to earth because humanities concept of religon got fucked up after the 'Lucifer Rebellion' and Calgastia (Satan) was one of Lucifers followers and earths planetary prince until the arrival of Christ. I also beleive in alot of the princables that many other religons I have studied have. With me its a mix n match of what feels right in my heart. I think I am doing alright formyself so far. I'll just keep on readin' on.

Buddhism is good because it emphasises action over speculation. There is nothing carved in stone or written as 'the code of conduct' for a buddhist.

Well there is a rather vague code of conduct in the Eightfold Path, but it's not like there's some divine vengeance that will be exacted upon you if you don't follow it. It's just there to help you live a better life. I like to think of Buddhism as a "self-help" religion.

Once I watched this krishna dude at a rainbow gathering refuse to let anybody into his van to get into the main part of the gathering ( I was running shuttle and was at the outer gate turn around). He said "Krishna's don't give rides.". Right then, about 6 old hippies jumped in front of his rig and refused to let him pass with his Krishan goodies. He then acted as if he was going to RUN THEM OVER so I jumped in there too to give him the added karma. He eventually broke down and looking very disheartened after 15 smelly road hippies piled into his van, drove off into the gathering....it was way too funny....
Don't get me wrong, I hang at krishan kitchen much when I am at gatherings, they have the best food and the rightoues music.....

I describe myself as a Jewish Christian, but Jewish Christian Gnostic is more accurate inasmuch as it 1) usually requires that others ask what that is, and 2) serves to describe my faith as primarily inner directed, and not identical with the social groups that refer to themselves as Churches of Christ. I have also learned a good deal from Indian religion, and Yoga has helped me considerably to understand certain Truths, and to master certain Higher states of consciousness pertaining to my faith. God is not 'a' being, God is the Ground of Being. God is not less than personal, God has a Personal and a Transpersonal Nature. This is most clearly described in Hinduism, but can also be discovered from Christian mysticism.

I'm a Gnostic Chaoist. This path is comprised of the basic principles of Taoism liberally dosed with Chaos principles (the science AND the magic of it) thus producing the sacred Chao. Top that off with a light 'n zesty sprinkling of early Christian heretical beliefs, as a sort of lop-sided nod to my upbringing.
Above all, my path values the eternal moment of gnosis over, say, mere book-larnin'...
Ayup, I guess you could say I'm a chao-boy! "On a steel horse I ride..."

The " Ground of Being" is a term used by theologian Paul Tillich to describe "the God beyond God." Mystics have referred to this in other ways, like Dionysus the Areopagite's "Superessential Godhead." God is Ultimate Reality - That which is Ultimately Real. From a Christian point of view, the Creator is qualitatively, ontologically different from the creation. God may be mysteriously 'in' creation (panentheism), but is not identical with creation (pantheism). The Divine 'infrastructure,' or 'matrix,' which is identified in Hinduism by the formula Being-Knowledge-Bliss (Sat Chit Ananda), has its correlate in Christianity in this Ground of Being.
Since God is 'in' creation (immanence) and transcends the creation, it has to be considered that God cannot be less than creation. If we, as beings, are personal, God can be thought of as at least having personality, but the Ground of Being transcends personality, and is transpersonal - incorporating but going beyond the category of personality. The Ground is not impersonal, therefore but transpersonal, and gives rise to the personal aspect. As in the formula of the Trinity - 'Una Substantia, Tres Personas' - One Substance, Three Persons - the underlying 'substance' is the Divine Ground. Personality is eternally begotten from the Ground. This theology can be found in 'Principles of Christian Theology' by John MacQuarrie.

thanks for your reply..but can I ask what transpersonal means? lol
I read on this website that there are two paths to God. There is a path that experiences God as a personal being (Allah, Father, Yahweh, etc) and theres another path that experiences God as Awareness (Nirvana, Tao, Brahman, etc.) What do you think about that?

Transpersonal means transcending the personal. The oldest religious traditions that are also highly philosophical originate in India. The Hindu thinkers differentiated between Nirguna Brahma, which is God 'without attribute,' utterly transcendental, about which nothing can be said because it is beyond limitation of definition; and Saguna Brahma, which is God 'with attributes.' This would include the notion of 'Iswara,' or a Personal God, One Who dispenses Grace, and Who is intimately involved with the life of the human being. This would be like Christ, the Logos, the Word, through Whom all things were made, and thus we derive our being from God through this aspect of the Godhead. Incidentally, in Jewish Kabbalism, Above the first sephiroth called Kether - Crown - which is God, is the Unmanifest Godhead listed as Ain Soph Aur, Ain Soph, and Ain - The Limitless Light, The Limitless, and '?' [That which nothing can be spoken of]. So you see, Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism are all theistic faiths which recognize a Transpersonal Ground that transcends the personal domain. Buddhism isn't interested in the manifest world of history - it is a cosmic religion, not a historical religion, and may even be thought of as a 'psychological' religion. I have learned much from Buddhism, and even wrote a 222 page doctoral dissertation on Vajrayana Buddhist psychology, but I believe in God as expressed in theistic faiths. As you can see, the theistic faiths embody but transcend a Personal God, Buddhism is lacking in the recognition of the Reality of Prayer, Grace, Forgiveness and other important aspects of spiritual life (IMHO). BTW, when responding to a post, click on the name of the poster you are responding to for clarity. Peace.

Alright, thanks.
You described yourself as a Gnostic, right? Do you prescribe to the belief that the Creator God is inferior to the Transpersonal God, as the Gnostics did?

Good question! Actually, no, I do not believe that the God of the Bible is the evil Demiurge. The aspect of Gnosticism that I adhere to is the experiential aspect. That is, I believe that God's Presence is Realized within human awareness, and that human awareness is an inner-directed Reality. The Kingdom of God is not a spacio-temporal extension, a 'place' above the clouds as in a 1st century mythologically based cosmology. Neither is the Kingdom of God a mere subjective state, but an eternal Verity that does interface and transform the human being. The Greek Orthodox call this process theosis.

Yeah, in Luke Christ himself said "The Kingdom of God is within you"
and the Gospel of Thomas talks extensively about finding yourself.
Ive always believed that the Kingdom of God is an ability or place inside of us that we can commune with God in. What do you think?
Also, Ive heard one person describe meditation as listening to God, while praying is talking to God. What do you think?

Yes, the Gospel of Thomas has had an impact on my faith. It is described as being Gnostic, and embraces a 'fully-realized eschatology,' wherein the Kingdom is to be found under a rock or in a a piece of cut wood - i.e., here and now is full with Eternity. The canonical gospels describe a 'partially realized eschatology,' where the Kingdom is only partly present, but 'will be' revealed, that is, belongs to a future time. I don't believe the Kingdom of God is about time at all. It has and is broken through our linear historical flow.
Petitionary prayer, Intercessory prayer [for others], prayers of Thanksgiving [spontaneous moments of being grateful, or planned, ritualized thanks like at meals, sex, or essentially anything], and Contemplative prayer are the 4 main types of Christian prayer. Meditation in the West refers to a discursive thinking about written scripture. Contemplation is what the East means by meditation - various degrees of recollection and absorption in God. St. Theresa says that true contemplative prayer (vs. oral or mental prayer) is supernaturally given. That is, it cannot be done at will, but is infused by God, or as the Orthodox say, by God's 'Uncreated Energies.' It is a [comm]union that transcends subject-Object duality to a great extent. It is wordless, thoughtless, imageless, but highly energetic. Samadhis in Hinduism; Jhanas in Buddhism.

Yeah, and that movie Stigmata really tied the Gospel of Thomas into the plot nicely.
Oh yeah..What do you think about the "Gap Theory" between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. Could billions of years have elapsed between the events described in these verses? Why does Genesis 1:2 appear like the Earth is flooded? Could the 6 Day process described in Genesis actually be God restoreing the Earth after Lucifers Rebellion?

The language of Genesis is mythological and poetic, not scientific. If the 'creatio ex nihilo' was intuited by the author of Genesis, it simply affirms that truth can be apprehended immediately and intuitively as well as empirically. The Big Bang describes creation out of nothing, out of a singularity - a mathematical point. It is entirely legitimate in 'my Book' to equate the act of creation with the Big Bang - mythology with cosmology, intuition and empiricism. The 6 days of creation is not sidereal time, it is mythological time. Pardon my Gnostic arrogance, but only a complete simpleton will fail to shift gears when reading mythological descriptions as literal scientific fact. Science was not possible for the authors of Genesis, but imagination was, as well as its source in the deep unconscious. In Jung's last work with physicist Wolfgang Pauli, they began to expound the idea that psyche and space-time were two sides of the same coin, so that the reality of cosmic events could actually be registered in the collective unconscious, since they are both of the same 'substance.'

Yeah, of course I understand that Genesis wasnt written by a scientist. lol
I pretty much believe that the Creator threw away some of his own energy, and then the Big Bang occured as a result. What do you think?

When Jewish Kabbalists say that God 'Voided' His own Being to create the singularity, it doesn't mean that He took a Divine Dump I rather like the concept of voiding or removing an Infinitesimal Point of His Superexistence, creating a 'portal' or singularity through which His Ideas could then expand, creating a dimension or universe 'outside' of His Divine Essence, yet allowing His Divine Nature (Immanence) to permeate the universe.

lol, Divine Dump was pretty funny.
Yeah, I guess the way you described it sounds better.
Also, Vedantists describe Atman (our souls) to be God Immanent, and somehow connected to Brahman (Who Im guessing is God Transcendent). What do you think?

Probably Ramana Maharishi has done the best job in the 20th century of explaining the interface between Atman, Jivatman (individual), Ahamkara (ego-sense), Manas (mind), and Prana (life-force). Atman is identical to Brahman, so it is difficult to ascribe immanent and transcendent respectively, but Atman is God associated with the embodied awareness of the human being while Brahman is Infinite, Eternal and not associated with form.

It's not even funny as a joke. It's fucking childish and idiotic to bring up such a piece of shit human being, in a joke even. I am not calling you these things, I know you meant it in jest. I have relatives who died because of that man however. And some who made it by sheer chance it seems... I almost did not ever exist because of that meth head hypocritical bastard Hitler. I knew someone would nitpick what I said and misinterpret it.
I was ambigious on this point, but I did NOT say in any way shape or form that it sould be hidden.
I am a bit drunk so I will come right out and say it fucking sickens me you come up with a defense for it.
I am just saying it is uncalled for to use it in a joke.
A serious conversation, sure, about evil twisted selfish minds who choose to take out their own misery and shortcomings on others.
Maybe if we joke around a bit more about people like Hitler and Jeffrey Dahmer, and Bin Laden, people will realize it's serious, don't you think?
Lets just make it one big joke, life death and everything, lets take not a damn thing seriously.
Maybe you would find it humorous to hear someone jokingly say they like to dress up as an evil bastard who is responsible for the deaths of many fellow intelligent humans, but I certainly don't.
I do not care to respond further at this time.

Yes, well it seems that for some drinking and posting do not mix. Normally we have this problem on the weekends.
Thank you for your sincere reply though. I am sorry that it offended you. My point was and is that people accuse any Moderator action with the likes of the Gestapo. We are called Nazis all the time.
With that said let me tell you a little about myself in the hopes that it will clarify any other words that flow from my keyboard.
I am not now, nor have I ever been, concerned with offending someone with my words. As a wise man once said, "Offense is in the Eye of the Beholder."
I am terribly shocked and grieved to hear about your relatives.
Carry on.

I'm going to do my best here to hold onto the play nice rules. But I can't let it slide. Wyldlaser, It's called humour bro. Yea dude was evil, yea the shit he did was awful. But check this out homeboy. Let's pretend Mr. M was serious k? He's all Hitler'd out, doing his little nazi dance, gettin on with it. Got the picture in your head? Good. You see any dead Jews? No? You think it's because possibly (despite his obviously brilliant deception) Mr. Mushrooms is in fact not Adolf Hitler, and quite possibly not even a nazi?
If his joke was one glorifying the Nazi regime, I might agree. If it was a joke about how Hitler's always been a personal idol of his, I could see getting offended. But the fact is, that he meant no offense, no disrespect, and certainly did not intend to profane the memory of the poor souls who were victimised in that war. Chill the fuck out kid. Living your life with your panties up your crack is a good way to make too many enemies, and live a much unhappier life.
Quote:
Lets just make it one big joke, life death and everything, lets take not a damn thing seriously.
That was the wisest thing you said in any of your posts. Too bad you can't see it. I just hope one day maybe you can figure out the truths in that statement, and maybe see the things around you in a more open light. (sorry if I sound condescending)
Peace, good will, and good luck bro. -Serv

I've decided that Matrixism ( http://www.geocities.com/matrixism2069 ) is the only religion for me.
It's not just because of their use of mushrooms or the causes that they support. I think that their religious laws have merit.

I hate to say it but Hitler did for Germany what the first few presidents did for America (in 1/10th the time)... some pretty fucked up shit to get the nation ahead. Yes, this includes toting slavery and killing a ton of Indians. You always hear people complain about killing Jews but no one cares about Native Americans. Thats racist bullshit so deal.If it wasn't for Hitler, Germany would still be paying off debts from WWI.
And before you flame me, I hate Hitler as much as the rest of you but I believe that making him look rediculous is the only way to get back at him. He was a silly farting meth-head who was weak enough to commit suicide and take his fam with him. A regular pussy.

By the way if anybody knows where i might get some Buddist pray bead, please PM, and tell me, because i really want a set.

If you're still out there...I quite forgot about getting back to you, sorry. I am aware of the various possibilities described by various faiths regarding post-mortem conditions of various human beings. My present understanding is that none of these apply in the additional possibility to Liberation. In Gnosticism as well as Advaita as well as Buddhism as well as Kabbalism - as soon as one ceases to identify with an individual being to whom conditions can apply - one is Liberated. Liberation consists in the Realization that one's Ultimate Nature is indistinguishable from God, or the Clear Light of the Void, or Brahman or Ain Sof, etc. We are The Ocean of Existence Itself, yet we are deluded into thinking that we are separate, individual little waves that come into and go out of existence. As soon as the wave Realizes that it is indistinguisable from the entire Ocean, the questions who/what am I? and what happens at death? cease to have any real meaning. We simply have to experience ourselves as the ONE.

I'm just not a fan of religion. Anybody else?
I was raised Catholic, went to church on sundays and went to catholic school K-8. I never liked church or praying but because I was so young and because religion was around me all the time, i went with the flow. when i was old enough to make my own decisions regarding faith, i dropped religion and didn't look back.

Since both my screenname and beliefs have changed since my first post here, I might as well give an update:
I am a Gnostic Christian, particularly focused on the Sophian Tradition. Unlike certain Gnostic sects, I do not take a purely mythological interpretation of Christianity, but I also do not take a purely historical interpretation, as literalist Christians do. Rather, I interpret scriptures both mythologically and historically. I'm also starting to learn the Kabbalah

I believe in the catholic social teachings and the true message of Jesus but I disagree with a lot of the other Catholic beliefs.
I have been recently delving into the Eastern religions and some of my philosophy has come from them.

I like to keep myself open to whatever arises in my field of direct experience. For this, I subscribe to the Soto Zen practice. Shamanism believes this... Scientology believes that... Christianity thinks this... Judaism thinks that... The reason I like Zen is because it asks, "Well, what do you think?"
Just a note, I love this forum. I would rate it +5 if I could (can I?) So many views, so many opinions, all beautiful.

I am in the middle of figuring out myself. Im trying to get over the brainwashing my parents put in my head with christian churches. I loved dogma, that was the best movie. I guess im pagan, neo-pagan, or whatever you want to call it. Even tho i dont live in the woods. (pagana will understand this)

None, religion creates division between humans, giving the ego a boost!
But the closest would be Taoism...
Peace & Love,
Q.
-------------------- Bill Hicks speaks of his experience on shrooms :- I realised our true nature is spirit not body, that we are eternal beings and God?s love is unconditional and there is nothing we can ever do to change that; it is only our illusion that we are separate from God or that we are alone. In fact the reality is that we are one with God & he loves us. Now if that isn?t a hazard to this country? you see my point. How are we gonna keep building nuclear weapons, what?s gonna happen to the arms industry when we know we?re all one? ..You can see why the government?s cracking down on the idea of experiencing unconditional love.

For me, Buddhism is the ideal way of acting and behaving, my philosophy you could say. But I do believe that there are many gods - devas - and among them Shiva is the one that especially protects me. The gods exist, but our senses are mostly insufficient to perceive their existence, like an insect crawling over your hand could never tell it´s crawling over the hand of a human being, just some warm, soft surface, as it thinks

Gnostic is a decent description, seeker of knowledge and truth.I believe most religions (at least at their conception) were basically the same type of para-normal experience with different cultural descriptions.

my religion is an ongoing psychosis that I AM somehow intimately connected to EveryThing in a manner i cannot readily explain. i don't really want to explain it, and fear the idea. because explaining it would somehow bring it all to some kind of pinnacle moment of history.
i was deeply involved with Thelema all my life. the goal of Thelema is essentially to create your own religion. because of the fact that no two people can ever occupy the exact same spacetime(except during sex), no two people can actually ever see anything the exact same way.
and this is why organized religion is so faulty. we may all adhere to similar behavior patterns, but each of us is a tiny tiny bit different, and that fact is often neglected by zealots.
after studying the religions of the world, and practicing some of them, i could never believe in any of them or follow them without some evidence. and my evidence came in the form of looking at my own personal visions of things and finding similarities between my own experiences, and ancient myths.
in the process i found that my own heart most clearly resounds with the story of Jesus & Mary. And the stories of Zion. i'm aware of egyptian archetypes and don't feel the need to think in those terms much. i feel close with Demeter & Persephone.
some could call me a pagan technically, because i believe in a Goddess, and i worship womanhood. except the way i look at it, i'm doing the same thing christ asked us to do, but no one is willing to accept that womanhood is the holy grail. there is nothing mysterious about manhood. all mystery resolves itself through womanhood. in my religion we believe that if a man and woman both understand womanhood and they come together in love and holy matrimony, it heals the globe. it stops hurricanes. and children are the most precious thing of all, they are close with God as infants, and they have alot to teach us... but nobody is listening.

My core beliefs are old school southern Baptist, allowing for Jewish roots and paranormalism, conditionally.
I hiked with a dorky, Ichabod-Crane-looking pastor on a mountain top, who later told the church that I was a witch.
In my dreaming and imagination (I keep them distinct from consensus, waking reality) his veil or barrier was very thin.
I don't believe that the truth in any matter can be hidden from a determined-enough person.

I don't know of a religion that I do not relate to.. as Amun Ra..
I guess it would come down to percentages..
Things I like/agree with.. vs things I don't/disagree with..
Gnostic might be a proper term.. I am very affiliated with the gnostic gospels..
