I hear this a lot now from Christians. Its a sin to smoke weed or drink because your removing yourself from your natural state and creating a false consciousness. What are your thoughts on this?

Christians also say its a sin because its illegal, and we must obey the laws of the land. So why did Jesus tell the Roman governor that no man has power over him. Only the father in heaven.

idk about christians

but i'll speak from a buddhist perspective.

most intoxicants urge people to succumb to "reactive emotions" which are labeled inherently bad by most buddhists.

marijuana may be an exception to this,
maybe not.

i dont know.

Sin is a Christian concept. They believe that man is inherently flawed (temptation) and sinful (the original sin). Instead of embracing all aspect of one's consciousness, they label them in a dualistic way as "good" or "evil". However, they have not understood that our "evil" side has a purpose in the sense that it guaranteed our survival on the path of evolution and that constantly suppressing it (instead of directing it) will only make it stronger.

The socalled Christian attitude is responsible for the legal situation. This should tell you enough about this kind of reasoning.

Because, if you believe in some kind of monotheistic ethical god, this is the case.

Don't get me wrong, in my opinion the problem here is not christianity, it's fascist moralism and fear of change.

i find it ironic that many people come closer or even discover 'god' while under the influence or after the fact.

That's kinda what I was getting at. Christians say your not feeling closer to God. Its a trick by Satan.

Of course, cause that's what they are taught to believe. If all you need to do is take some substance then there is no need for the church, the hierarchy, or their rules. They scare people away from anything that could remove their power.
