Re: Why do believers generally avoid answering simple questions? [Re: Rocker232]

Science, by it's definition, never has proof. The concept of proving something in science (other than math) is anathema to the Scientific Method.

I'm always amused when mystic-heads call evolution "just a theory". That's kinda like calling water "just H2O molecules". Duh.

Republican Values:

1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you.
2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Because humans are social creatures that have to deal with one another, it is the duty of EVERYONE on this planet to believe as few false things as possible and as many true things as possible. (because of that whole thing about where, you know, we have to live around one another)

Especially when it comes to unsubstantiated claims and belief systems that are full of immoralities and have a logical progression to violence. (because of that whole thing about where, you know, we have to live around one another)

Does truth necessarily coincide with nonviolence?

Seriously?  Who are you to say what anybody's duties are on this planet other than your own?

The subjects that many skeptics have labeled as "false" have NOT been proven to be either true or false.
There is no proof in either direction and just because you might not believe in it does NOT make it false or impossible.

We can be social creatures without becoming enamored on or arguing about others spiritual beliefs.  Especially if the person isnt really important in your life.  Hell, part of healthy social interaction is accepting others beliefs even if they dont jive with your own.

It makes no sense to argue beliefs on the shroomery with a bunch of people you will never even see in person.

Your family and friends?  Thats a different story.  But who really gives a shit if somebody you dont know believs in aliens?

Sure it does.  Its fun, and you get a different dynamic by doing it online.  In person you may feel compelled to hold back and not challenge what somebody says.  Thats not the case here, and thats why we come here - to challenge other's and our own beliefs.  No belief system is worth a shit unless its been tempered in the fires of debate.

Thats a little thing called respect, which magically disappears when "debating" online.

Who do you think youre fooling?  You come here to stroke your ego and reaffirm YOUR beliefs which are just as unsubstantiated as the "believers".  You debate for sport not for self betterment.

Quote:

If the individual is serious about establishing spiritual beliefs, than a debate will take place in the mind of the seeker.  The mind will create dialogue from both view points.

No belief system is worth a shit if its just a conglomeration of outside perspectives and biased opinions.
The ideas are best understood when they come from within.

All of the "debating" that goes on here turns immediately into debunking which has been shown time and time again to be futile and a waste of time.

Beliefs are something to be shared and discussed, not debated.

I could careless what anybody believes.

My point here is to illustrate that all of your "debating" is nothing more than ego boosting.  There are better ways to inspire people and boost your self confidence than winning a few shallow online debates.  There are better ways to establish beliefs...like getting your ass out of the computer chair and living life.

Its ridiculous to me that somebody would actually choose to spend their limited time on this earth making a thread this irrelevant.  You guys really have nothing better to do?  You all have like 20,000 posts too...thats pathetic.

Ive been a member here for like 10 years and I only have 670 posts.

You guys must waste A LOT of time sitting on your asses "debating" to accumulate tens of thousands of posts in a few years.

It might be time to ask yourself what this is all getting you and if there could be better more productive things to do with your time.
