I just feel that I can be a pure person, and spread love, kindness and purity on my own account. Why do I have to follow a set of guidelines that don't necessarily work for me. Yet, if I don't accept christ as a saviour, I'll burn in hell??

I've always hated the whole idea of hell, but in the bible Jesus says

Luke 11:23 - He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.

Logically, it seems, that God wants a whole-hearted answer of where your allegiance is. Satan rebelled against God, tempted man and therefore came the fall.... what's going on now is a war against God... so would it not make sense that the savior of the world demand this?

God let your stepfather chose, as he does everyone, who he would serve and he chose his depraved ideas over true faithfulness to God. Your childhood was the result of the very principle of this existence.

Free will.

If your step father had no free will he, you, your mom, and ALL of humanity would be mere puppets.

I completely understand that bro. And I do recall those scriptures. But by me helping others, being selfless, willing to die to save another life, and in leui of all this, if I don't follow christ, I'm still bound for damnation. That seems so selfish of god.

I don't really know why Jesus is the pinacle of where you show where your allegiance is, but that's the way it is. I guess it would make sense for God to set the path narrowly ... after all his creations ARE rebelling against him.

To understand that, we have to look at such "Biblicalities" from a higher perspective, and not quite so directly. Replace the greatly misused word sin with insanity, or unconsciousness [spiritually speaking], and that may help you understand clearer.

Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge, hence became sinners.
What this symbolic story tries to teach, is that the intellect is inherently dualistic, and that in itself is a deep root of suffering in all of humanity. Hence, we are all "born in sin" as in: born and raised in a world full of spiritually unconscious people, identified with their minds and intellect - hence fueling the attachment to such dualities which leads to suffering and so on and so forth.

Meanwhile, from the far East, an excerpt from the TaoTehChing:

To realize that our knowledge is ignorance,
This is a noble insight.
To regard our ignorance as knowledge,
This is mental sickness.

Only when we are sick of our sickness
Shall we cease to be sick.
The Sage is not sick, being sick of sickness;
This is the secret of health.

I'm not an adherent to any religion, but I do my best to exclude none; they all have, within them, a gem of spirituality.

It's quite amazing how much Islam / Christianity / Judaism are related. They are very much alike, yet there seems to be so many discrepencies that surround them. I don't understand it.

Also, how can only one be right when they are so much alike... out of those 3 religions, Islam is the most recent and according to the Quran is the continuation of the message of Christianity. Jesus was also a prophet in Islam, he just wasn't said to be the literal "son of God".

I have family that fought in the cival war

I have his war records of all the times he fought in skirmishes and his record of being captured
and his having to sign documents pledging his loyalty to the union after his capture

it means I have pride in my roots.I've studied my history and who and where I came from.
I'm proud to be a southerner.

I do believe in white pride, but not like you mean it
i believe all creeds should be proud of their ancestry and what there race is

you seem to think just because a few bad apples use a symbol that
that in fact makes the symbol bad

I believe too that just because you've seemed to meet a few bad christians that you've cast out the whole lot with out giving the good ones a chance to prove your views on christians wrong

""Jesus was obviously born a baby. Now at what point of infancy did he suddenly realize that "hey, I'm the son of god and I'm here to save the day" I mean most toddlers I've encountered can barely comprehend how to signal for a bottle, and are too busy urinating/defecating on themselves to realize they are in fact the son of god.""

was he not told by the three wisemen in his crib, the day he was born and brought gifts? atlest his mom would have gotten that impression from the 3 wise guys? no?

I understand the whole heritage not hate thing... but your relative who fought for the confederation was wrong and misguided by the history and culture at the time that surrounded him. Most people are decent and good people, however history and culture can collectively ensnare anyone. The vast majority of Nazi soldiers were likely fairly decent people, who loved their families and were nothing like the Hitler who used them and their country.

And in retrospect if the south had won, slavery would likely have eventually been abolished by now anyway, only it would have remained popular for alot longer. However, for the sake of progression it was a good thing the south had lost the war.
