I believe creationists explain the bones of our ancestors and dinosaurs to be placed by god to make us doubt. To test us.

well, uhm... Go Atheism

Oh and a very cool thing. Most of the believers in america will go to hell if this is true. Because in order to go to heaven you must follow jesus and his teachings. Well there is evidence that Jesus was a cannabis user and that he 'healed' people using cannabis. So there!! Anti-drug-christians go to hell. Sorry

Quote:

The bible (which I have read several times) clearly states that in order to get into heaven, it must be through Jesus. If you believe in him and follow his teachings then your afterlife will be with him.

I'm no biblical scholar, but I'm willing to bet that this is more of a modern Christian interpretation than anything else.  Show me where it says this in the bible and I will propose to you a different interpretation of the same scripture.

Quote:

This is what I wonder...if the only way to get into heaven is through Christ, then what happened to all the cavemen and people who lived before he came a little over 2000 years ago?

This is one of those questions you can ask a pastor or a christian and they will look stunned for a moment, then spew off a verse or two or give one of the old "God has a special place for them" lines.
But here's a hint......the cavemen who came before jesus already knew about the aminata muscaria and other sacramental plants, therefore they didn't need a parable to turn them on to it.

Quote:

I'm not a close-minded person though, and I am very open to being religious someday if all my questions and shit that causes for me to doubt any religion are answered.

There's no good reason to be  religious in your life ever.  But that doesn't mean you can't walk a  spiritual path.  Most modern "believers" follow a religious path but not a spiritual one.  That means they go through the motions, church, prayer, guilt, etc..., often not knowing why and usually utterly afraid to invoke any sort of mysticism or mystery or any other sort of vulnerability into their lives.

I think you are looking at spirituality with a narrow-mind. Not believing in Jesus doesn't mean you can't be spiritual. You should just believe in nothing and start from there. It's best that way imo.

hmmm... did you really read that bible? cuz in it there also says that after beeing crucified and resurrecting, jesus went to "hell" and gave forgiveness to all the souls in there (according to the good old document pretty much everyone who came before jesus)... does that answer your question?

note: although i consider myself a christian because i believe in the existance of jesus christ as the one who achieved the highest level of mastery, i do not believe in religion or any other kind of organized belief... the bible has been manipulated from the beginning to the end to transform it into a mass manipulation tool... i found my own way, and my own belief... my own inspiration and holy path which i think everyone should do... after all, every path leads to the same place: we are all one...

ps: religion is latin for "fear of god" ... pretty accurate eh?

first of all... time does not exist...

second of all... there is no such thing as hell... (except the one most people on this planet keep chosing and creating day by day)

that's the trick the church uses to get its people to obbey... fear... its our way... or hell... and well, you have discovered one of the mayor flaws in christian religion, which millions and millions of people still are not able to see... if god is perfect, and almighty, and loving, and compassionate... then why would he send his children to hell for not doing "what he says" let alone send them to hell without giving them the chance to wash away their sins (through jesus)... what i was trying to say is that your point has been discussed and proven a lot of times in this forum... the bible has become a mass manipulation tool... everything jesus ever said about reeincarnation and meditation was taken out... because it lets people know that there is more than one chance... and that they basically can't screw up because they always will return to god... it is impossible to be separated from god, because he is EVERYTHING... and it lets people find their inner light and realize that they are their own masters, and haver their own holy path and there is no necessity for a "middle man"... but well... i think i answered your question in my first post... but i will try to do it once again, a little more extensive this time...

Quote:

My question was - were those souls that of people who lived prior to the coming of Christ? Did God make those people burn in hell...with Satin...for all those years...suffering...being tortured...blah blah blah, because they did not believe in Jesus when they died?

lets assume there is such a thing as time (and not only one eternal holy moment)... and lets assume that what the bible says is true... at a certain point in the timeline jesus came, and lived and learned and evolved and spread the word... and then people became afraid of him (as they have become of every other master to walk over this planet) and decided to kill him... and through this crucifiction and ressurection jesus saved all the souls on this planet... and went to hell to save and forgive the souls in there... ok... if you look at the timeline it becomes pretty obvious that the people in there all were before jesus christ... now if you are asking if ALL the people who came before jesus christ where sent to hell for the amount of "time" between their death and J.C.'s birth, then you would have to ask a priest... for there is no record of that in the bible... and if you do... please come back and tell me what he said because i think that is a tricky question... did i manage to explain myself a little better this time?  sorry for the confusion... just was kinda lazy...

I have to agree with In(di)go

Quote:

after all, every path leads to the same place: we are all one...

To expound on the above quote... We ARE all one... Spiritual beings having a
human (physical) experience. The physical reality we individually and collectively
experience is merely an illusion... when our physical bodies cease to exist, only
our physical reality changes.

Imagine a glob of mercury sitting on a table. At one end of the table the temperature is extremely hot... at the other end is frigid. Now imagine plopping an object in the middle of the mercury. It scatters in all directions.

The parts of the whole are the same chemically. However, the beads of mercury at either end of the table are experiencing completely different realities, as is the mercury that did not migrate to either end. Once the mercury is grouped together as a whole, the whole will experience the shared reality again.

We are all made up of similar, yet very unique physical properties. Despite the uniqueness that separates our physical realities and allows us to experience the
miracle of physical existence, we should have similar conclusions to physical
reality upon reaching our spiritual home and being united as one.

This brings me to the following quote:

Quote:

time does not exist...

Time is linear and is a tool we have devised as humanity to explain the physical
reality we share cumulatively. Take out the element of time from physical life and
you will find everything seemingly melds together into ONE.. the past is the
present and the future is the present.

With this being said, I believe the ancient civilizations that have disappeared
without a trace are not actually gone... We are those civilizations... ascended to a
new physical reality.

Additionally, I believe we (humanity) are ascending into a new physical
existence. What the catalyst will be or how it will occur, one could only
speculate. The answers are more than likely contained within ancient text or
glyphs.

Quote:

there is no such thing as hell... (except the one most people on this planet keep chosing and creating day by day)

I couldn't have said it better. Heaven and hell are ideas made up by humanity to
explain the seemingly unexplainable. This can be a very subjective topic in itself!
What one may conceive of heaven may be somebody elses perception of hell.
One man's trash may be another man's treasure.

Hope my rambling made some sense.

Peace to Everyone,

Peaceful Nomad

I haven't read the bible in a while but I think I have your answer. There are a few passages in the Old Testament concerning a place called Shilo? Sheal? can't remember the name, but it was the place that Abraham, Moses, and the prophets went when they died. It was an after life place, a limbo, that good souls went to, but not heaven, not till the Crucifixion. It was a place without punishment, but this is delineated in the Hebrew and Greek languages but often lost in the English translations. Not to be confused with purgatory either, the concept is similar but not the same.

maybe it was one of those "from this point on" type of deals.

like, here's your second chance, your wake up call. this is jesus, he is my son, he is the way... i am GOD and i am telling you this. if you don't want to listen, fuck you... you're going to hell.

basically like if you have a kid and you heard him say 'fuck' and he doesn't know any better, you aren't going to punish him, you just warn him and explain it to him. but from that point on, if he tells you to 'fuck off' you back hand the little bastard

(sorry for the excessive profanity)

yay another loophole in christianity..... makes you think about the fact that all the poor jews and muslims and so on just "get fucked over" by "God" as well.

Well, I'm an agnostic, but I went to a Catholic High School, so I think I have some small degree of expertise in this. According to Catholic tradition(even tho it's not written in the Bible), after Jesus was crucified, he went down into Hell to convert those who came before him. After that, he was resurrected, sent the Apostles on their mission, ascended into Heaven, and the rest is history.
