I have serious questions about Jesus Christ
    #3467181 - 12/08/04 10:17 PM (12 years, 3 days ago)

Ok folks. I was raised in a hardcore christian household. The traditional brainwashing was programmed into my young impressionable mind, and my parents beliefs were automatically supposed to be mine (so much for free-will)...

Well years later after being on my own, I've developed many questions. I'm only going to ask a few for the time being, and we'll see how that goes....

1.) Jesus was obviously born a baby. Now at what point of infancy did he suddenly realize that "hey, I'm the son of god and I'm here to save the day" I mean most toddlers I've encountered can barely comprehend how to signal for a bottle, and are too busy urinating/defecating on themselves to realize they are in fact the son of god.

2.) This whole immaculate conception thing makes me wonder. I mean, we all know that conception is a chemical reaction. The sperm enters the eggs, and boom, the embryo grows, blah blah blah. So did whoever "magically" knocked Mary up, have it all planned out to make sure the sex was male, etc, etc?

3.) They say that all men/women are born into sin. So when Jesus came parachuting out the womb wouldn't he automatically fall into this category? Mary was not "perfect", so being that one half of jesus was mary's egg, and the other came from the magic sperm, wouldn't half of him come from sin.

4.) We all know what goes through a 15 year old males mind... Sex sex sex. I mean, you wake up everyday with raging morning wood, and before you know it your wackin the wood. And if you don't a wet dream usually occurs. So Jesus never had any kind of sexual temptation? If he was human, wouldn't the chemicals in his mind attract him to the female species??

These are all serious questions, and are in no way meant to disrespect anyone or be blasphemous...

:peace:

If you can believe that Jesus was God AND man (and of course the whole God idea) ... God being God and all... (2) I don't see the trouble in conceiving a baby by his own will power alone. So if you look at it in that way then it can answer most of your questions.

1) About Jesus' realization... his physical mind's realization? man, that's interesting to think about, but I think it was underlying in his subconcious.... when reading about him... he preached as a little boy.. so I would guess it was ALWAYS automaticaly there...

3) I wouldnt think so because he wasn't the SEED of man, but of God... i think there MIGHT have been something in genesis that said something to extent that sin follows thru the man.. i'm not too sure, but God being God and all....

4) Since he's God I would think that'd he'd be able to prevail over any temptation etc.

I'm sure you have very good reasons for worrying about these things, but as I see it God is God and those things (in my mind) can be gotten past by realizing that God is all powerful/knowing and can get around little problems such as the ones you listed.

From the studies I've done, I'll try to answer your questions.

1) The only textual evidence I can think of is when he was a small child, ran off to the temple and had a discussion with the priests there

2) Yes, God. Although I've personally speculated that it may have been a freak genetic thing- hens have been known to generate offspring when sperm counts in the population are very low. It is very rare, and inconceivable in humans, but it's *some* kind of explanation nonetheless..

3) Actually, Mary was the only human with original sin to not have sinned beyond that. This is why she was chosen to bear Jesus.

4) Probably. But apparently he had a huge amount of willpower?

But that kinda falls into what my parents would tell me. God is God is God, just accept it and don't question, or you'll burn in hell for all eternity. I wish I could just accept these things, but if I did I'd be lying to myself. My mind questions everything

DNKYD if you don't have any supportive things to say then do not say them. The man was honestly asking for help and support.

Wasn't mary born into sin, as ALL humans allegedly are?

I guess what really disturbs me is that most of the time whatever a person's parent's beliefs/religion is, then the child will follow. I mean if my parents were buddist, I'd be buddist, if my parents were racist, i'd be racist, if my parents were catholic, i'd be catholic. you see my point? just because they're taught, doesn't make them necessarily true.

God's a pretty hard ... being ... to understand; it's great to question things like that even after you've made the leap of faith into well, faith. Just remember that you are free to make your own choice despite what your parents say or believe. When the answers aren't cut and dry I think that's where faith REALLY comes into play.

Good question, cherry bomb. This is part of the christian rhetoric.

I've read the bible quite a few times, but not by choice. My stepdad used to lock me in my room, and make me read chapters at a time, then write essays. Can you see the connection as to why I have an attitude against christianity. Nothing should be forced, we all need to find truth for ourselves

That's sincerely fucked up. (on your stepfather's part) What your stepfather did was wrong and you have to remember that christianity is not about bein forced into anything. (thus, the ability to chose heaven/hell)

Yeah, it really turned me away from religion. He was an extreme hypocrite. He'd beat me with a belt, and say that the bible justified this. On top of it all, he was an extreme alcoholic.

I have a question now.

If we all decended from Adam and Eve, then using that logic inbreeding should be ok and 100% legal in the United States of Jesusland, no?

Wouldn't we all have 12 fingers and webbed feet?

I just feel that I can be a pure person, and spread love, kindness and purity on my own account. Why do I have to follow a set of guidelines that don't necessarily work for me. Yet, if I don't accept christ as a saviour, I'll burn in hell??

He probably was a 100% hypocrite (or a REALLY REALLY bad christian) and you don't really need to worry about doing anything he was trying to force on you because he probably couldn't even force it on himself.

Yeah, I lived through 15 years of hardcore abuse, and no one knew about it. My mother and I were victims. But now at the age of 23, the truth is coming out, and I'm in the middle of a lawsuit with my stepfather and mother. My mother is just as much to blame because she sat back and did nothing. My stepfather MADE her and I get saved, thus making us his "puppets"

And where was god?
