I have been doing mine backwards of that. 10 agar, 15 DME and 500 water. Maybe too rich. I’ll give that a try.

First plates of ochras are in jars. Pretty stoked for this grow.

So tacking a step into ochras. I have a plate like this (1.5% nutrients), 1st transfer, really fluffy and tomentose. Similar thing in two other plates. One transfer is in a trench (island ), just in case, still waiting how that behaves.

So what I'm wondering is that if that's kind of normal for these? And if it is, then I kind of have a memory that this could already indicate, that this culture might overlay like hell, or is there no such correlation at all?

It's also quite slow, but that might be just my temps.

Your ochras culture is behaving more like a natalensis culture

Interesting. Thanks for that lead, I’ll go browse the dedicated nats thread a bit too.

Thinking of taking a small chunk to a brf cake, to see what happens. Prepping some for cake wars anyway. Maybe I’ll get a fruit or something.

For the record, I have never seen anyone who has accidentally had natalensis they were growing or trying to grow. You're culture looks fine, just grow it. Doesn't need to be throwing insane ropes

From my little experience with ochras the ones I got on agar started as tomentose thicc af like urs and so then 2 transfers changed to a mostly rhizo be it thick af rhizo that lead to a weird fairy ring pinning to happen on the t2

Interesting thing too is that ochras has blueing on the mycelium assuming it's bruising from aggressive colonization and running outa water in the agar

Makes sense. Would seem a bit unlikely indeed, growing ochra when thinking your growing nats seems like a more common pattern. Also these are vendor spores and I don't think they even offer nats.

But big thanks to you for reassurance!

I might be misunderstanding you, but one thing I'm noticing is that the growth kind of leads with more rhizo, less fluffy and areal myc, at the edges, but only at the edges and when it advances, earlier growth fluffs up.
