All cubes look like this typically or is this a special kind? I don't notice some of those patterns usually.

Hey Hip yeah I just weighed it (23g) and had snack time.

The ride was chill and mild. Nice wall breathing and relaxing.

Tulted I'm in the same camp as Hippie that cubes are cubes but the name on the syringe was huatula and Tasmanian. (Both named for where they were found if I recall)

Did you have to put more water on those cakes with the big specimens as they grew?

Were those cakes still able to put out many more fruits or if they get that big is it just limited mostly to a couple of those?

Very nice looking cubes for sure, I like the look of those.

you got one on me for sure.. I can't just eat them like that.

I like to do a quick sautee in some butter and salt/garlic.  and eat them with an omelette or something or even just the shrooms at that point. Butter and salt makes a huge difference.

that's the only way I can get down "raw" fruits.

@Tulted.  The species,  as you asked.. would be 
Ps. cubensis. The variety would be as listed Tasmanian, and huatula.

Also as  stated. cubes are cubes and for the most part they all look generally the same.

You will see some differences here and there between varieties but for the most part they  got the same general appearance.


As for the water and big fruit question. 

It's likely the genetics he used were really good and the cake had enough nutrients and  water to grow nice and big like that.

So typically in like a tub. yes,

when the mushrooms grow nice and big like that they probably used up a lot of the nutrients and water and what's left will give you results that aren't necessarily as big..

However as for the PF cakes water isn't usually an issue because you redunk them or bottom water it..

so you can always count that the water content will be there as long as you pay attention and make sure of it.

From that point it just depends on how much nutrients those big mushrooms took out of the cake when they grew..

If there is still a lot of nutes/water left then you could still get more big ones.. but if not,  then not likely.

The structural Integrity of the cake itself will usually start to get spoungee and crumble apart..

you'll know at this point that there's really not a lot left there and you should expect for your flushes to start dwindling.

Well my biggest guy grew quite a bit overnight and already had its veil break. Was thinking the wet weight would be a little bit more but oh well. Into the dehydrator for these 3.

Left the two still on there with unbroken veils.

If fruiting conditions weren't introduced fast enough could the vegetative mycelium just keep eating nutrients and make a cake spongey? Or does mycelium store the nutrients to fruit in the mycelial network ahead of time, and no real risk to fruit yield if you happened to let cakes over-consolidate by a few weeks?

No fruiting doesn't have to be initiated at a perfect time, you can even let the cakes stay in the jars until they get pins then birth them. I've had jars I've left for just a few days after full colonisation and some which are weeks after full colonisation and they act the same as long as you dunk them before setting them in the FC.

The pf tek is very simple and doesn't need a perfect timing, just wait for full colonisation and consolidation then you can fruit or wait quite a while.

If the cake is spongey it's more likely to be contaminated than stripped from nutrients.

OK ty. I have jars that have consolidated for weeks past the expected timeframe, and I'm thinking that this species absolutely needs some sort of soil casing layer for some type of exotic pans. I am following the exotic pans thread and from how I saw my big shroom grow I think this looks promising. On the shroom I grew the mycelium reached out to some dirt that was clumped almost on the side of the deli container. It somehow formed a base at this point where it started to form almost indestructable mycelium and make a pin at this spot. The strength of this base and the strength of the stem of the pin was crazy. It just needed a little bit of nutes at this location where it was able to form a relay or assembly line from nutes in the tray. The veins of the mycelium looked like ant tunnels branching through the substrate to the base. I have waited for pins in jars and they just never happen. It is very odd. And verm as just a casing layer does not seem to work either for me. It will vegetate through verm but it will not form any bases or pins.

Well folks, my first flush yielded about 12gs cracker dry! Obviously not a massive success but I'm pretty psyched either way as this was my very first attempt at growing after much research.

Don't have super high hopes for a big second flush because my initial cakes were already a bit sparse but you never know. I've dunked them and they're headed back into the water tub so we shall see.

I had some initial issues getting the right BRF consistency and I think I may have thrown off the verm:BRF:water ratio a bit due to overly coarse verm and that may not have given my cakes enough "food" to do their thing. I think the cake that had the biggest flush was ~28gs when I picked them wet but most were significantly less.

I bought some medium verm from a mushroom supply company for my next go around which should work much better. I'm planning to inoculate 10 more jars in the next week or so to get attempt #2 in the works.

At the end of the day I'm pretty happy. There was definitely a point where I thought nothing was going to happen in my water tub!

Thanks buddy! And maybe more to come on the second flush. Only time will tell.

I have a ton of life events coming up in the next few months so just planning on solid storage (truly cracker dry with a desiccant pack in a vacuum sealed mason jar) and having them ready for me once I'm mentally ready in a few months. So just essentially trying to stock pile until then :lol:

No spore prints yet but maybe on this next grow. This time around, I was just mostly focused on getting my fruits directly into the dehydrator. I appreciate the offer - I might hit you up in the future for that!
