Not cult but I just saw this article where they were able to take a picture of entangled photons

Kinda feels like some fake hippy shit but seems to be legit.

A.k.a. said:
Right? I thought for sure this was bullshit initially. Like what are the odds two connected particles with opposing spins happen to form an ancient religious/philosophical symbol about opposing forces being connected.

Arkanaut said:
One thing for sure, this will be taken totally out of context by sellers of woowoo.

But yeah, my head asplode also.

notthatsorry said:
From the paper:

"Finally, Fig. 6 demonstrates an example of the potential applications of biphoton digital holography. The unknown pump beam can carry information about an image or be scattered by a three-dimensional object. The information about the scatterer is transferred to the SPDC state and can be retrieved through our technique (Fig. 6b)."

They're intentionally transmitting this image. It's not an image of two entangled photons, it's an image they're encoding and recovering, but that's as far as I understand it.

Arkanaut said:
Out of consideration for those of us who prefer not to read, I wish they would have chosen a less mystical and evocative image to hologram.  Like the face of Garfield the cat, for instance. πŸ€”

Mackload said:
Lol. I think it's a constructed image. They deliberately chose it to look like that.edit:I mean lol Garfield πŸ˜„

Arkanaut said:
Took me a minute to rig up a biphoton digital holographer, and getting those photons to entangle the way I wanted them to was like, well, herding cartoon cats.  I'll be submitting this to Nature Photonics.  Wish me luck!
