Looks like a good haul. What sort of land did you find them on?

Hey guys, new to the forum and to mushroom hunting aswell! I've spent the last few months reading up and trying to learn as much as possible especially about the psychedelics  I thought it was time to get out and see what I could find, so yesterday I took my first journey into the forrest... I came across what I believed to be liberty caps, they were where you would expect a grassy area which was pritty damp, although now I'm starting to think they could possibly be imatations.. They are not as conically shaped as what I've seen on here, my photos are terrible I will try to get more, they do have an umbo but it's not really prominent. Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers Reece

No libs there I'm afraid bud. You're not gonna find em in a forest. You want wild land, like Dartmoor/exmoor/lake district/peak district/highlands or similar.  Something like that.

You are right, they are not liberty caps. They are Panaeolus papilionaceus, which you quite often will find in similar habitat as liberty caps.

You are however better off posting identification requests in a separate thread, thus you'll get quicker and better replies (and don't have to
fight for attention among the zillion other posts here).

Just a heads-up that libs are starting to pop at low altitudes (25m above sea level). Was passing through local playing fields that produce libs sporadically every year. Ran across a few cheeky ones in the freshly cut grass today:eek::awedance:

Sheep pasture high altitude with a tree line about a few football fields long either side of the road.

My tip is if you ever see a tree line with a pasture sheep or cow that's a magical place because of the symbiotic relationship going on between the trees the liberty caps and other funghi and the animals themselves and if you find that on a slope with a high altitude in regards to your local area you can't fail libs could and will grow in those spots for sure it's just wether or not you get there the right time or something else hasn't eaten them

Obviously the mushrooms likes damp dark spots but also a bit of light so open pasture with a treeline is perfect even in unideal wether conditions the trees protects the sides drying out and the libs and those type mushrooms grow along the sides of the pastures by the trees shade

If you find those amongst lib territory that's a good sign those are edible are transferred and eaten by the cattle along with libs

Yeah that's the talk that it's kicked off early down south this year and from the looks of it that's how it's going down, I know some good spots down in South East I might check out bit should be fruitful up here soon anyway so needn't bother if the seasons started and you look well enough you'll always find them

In the words of Michael Owen if he commented on mushrooms, if you know where to look, you know where to find them.

My local spots vary from 130-200m ASL, 300 at a stretch. Has anyone started finding at similar altitudes yet? Hoping to see some pop up within next few days, but doesn't look like rain is going to be too heavy Wednesday onwards.

Gorgeous finds my man congratulations I hope you are blessed further.
I am thinking later today when I wake up going down to my local cow & sheep grazed fields, I am not expecting anything because we have only had 2 days of rain (and it is said to be the case that we will have many more to come) but it only takes an hour to check and its one day this week I have away from college.

Hi all..great to see some finds coming in! I love this time of year. I'm thinking of going to one of my favourite spots on the wales boarder nearish hereford this weekend. Only thing is that's it's a 3 hour drive! Just wondering if anyone has been successful near that area recently..its about 400m elevation and looks to have been raining there since sunday and will do for the rest of this week. Essentially do you think it will be worth my while tracking up on sunday or you reckon give it a week or 2?

Cheers

Can’t seem to work out how to start a post, so thought I would just post this here and hope for some help.
I found this little fella while out hunting Lib Caps. It could well be one, but then I’ve never seen one except in pictures!

Does anyone here know what it is?

Hi Lads, Just been checking local spots for an hour or so to see if anything in popping up yet. Didn't find much, just the above. Not too convinced due to lack of prominent nipple, but could this be due to age? It has only started raining within past few days. Not getting my hopes up anyway. Cheeeeers
